I loved this! Even though I know you didn't. Lol. Also, totally relate to you on YA. I am 32, and once I hit 30 I just couldn't stand most high school age books, and I even struggle with college age at times when they are really immature.

Happy you found one Final Girl! This was a fun concept, I really enjoyed it. I have DNF:ed so many books this year, so I feel your pain. :) But I have absolutely no regrets, I read for my own enjoyment, and if I'm not having a good time, what's the point. I bought the book, so there ends any obligations. But it's sad too, I truly want to love every new book I pick up. Oh well, that's life. Lovely little Lettie-cameo too, loved that! :)

I had to make a decision about thrillers this year. They were putting me in slumps every single time. Once I realized that and stopped picking them up I was much happier. Sounds to me you might be going through one of those stages.

that's 100% me with horror right now! thrillers haven't been great either, unfortunately. I'm definitely having to switch up the books I read now and hopefully it'll start 2025 on a positive note!

@ErinMegan sending all the good reading vibes your way. I'm curious what it is about fantasy you don't like? Is it just the size of the books, series or being fantastical? There's just so many subgenres that you can kind of get it all.

@ kinda all of the above? I don’t love super long books, I don’t love reading series, and I don’t love super fantastical stories. I used to read fantasy in high school and I liked it a lot, but somewhere between then and college I started hating anything not super realistic. I’m trying to push through and see what exactly I can tolerate now, so it’s a bit of a journey for me! I am trying to get more “fantasy fantasy” books not just witchy fantasy, so we’ll see how that goes!

@ErinMegan that's understandable. It's such a journey being a reader. I know I've dropped the thrillers and gotten more into scifi again. I jump around a lot genre wise tho to try and avoid slumps.

Excited for this series and other KZbinrs taking on this concept as I also am aiming to cut down on my physical TBR. I’m at 60 right now but my goal is to get my physical TBR down to 30 and then focus more on getting library books. It’s also a good motivator that I want to use my book shelf for some decor items and to be able to fit my library TBR there (currently I have to stack it elsewhere).
