Yes, in every filmmaking aspect! The acting, cinematography, storytelling, soundtrack, everything. Add that one shot scene of 12-17m (I don’t remember), super underrated because people don’t like horror and the horror genre usually doesn’t get the love it deserves with some movies, shows and performance..”cough”..William Dafeo and Robert Pattinson in The Lighthouse) & Toni Collete in Hereditary. Bly Manor is not as good as Hill House but still good and now I started Midnight Mass. a lot of people doesn’t even know about it, but it’s the same creator and some of the same actors. I just finished ep3 and the show started VERY slow with a lot of plots but things are starting to make more sense and I heard good reviews, so let’s see!

A rare example of a great one-season horror series. Everything about this is top notch.. you'll enjoy it quite a bit. Good story, acting, script, production.. the whole nine yards. The wonderful Shirley Jackson wrote "The Haunting of Hill House" in 1959, one of the finest horror novels ever. This series takes little more than the name from that book, but considered as it's own thing it is very good. The great director Robert Wise made a much more faithful movie called "The Haunting" in 1963, in my opinion the creepiest ever made. You should watch that after finishing this series, it would be an interesting comparison. Don't bother with the 1999 remake though, it's utter garbage.

If you two manage to make it through the series in one piece, you might consider The Haunting of Bly Manor, a "second season" so to speak, but in the spirit of American Horror Story, it features much of the same cast playing different characters in a different haunting scenario. Not as good as Hill House, but worthy.

Just FYI, the first five episodes of Hill House, each episode concentrates on one sibling, eldest to youngest, each of which represents one of the five stages of grief. Stephen is eldest, and represents Denial. Thus he is always denying that anything paranormal happened, to the extent he has become a ghost debunker. Shirley is Anger, she’s very controlling and precise, but with a lot of rage bottled up. Theo is Bargaining, she’s trying to make sense of the world (bit of a stretch, IMO, but it’s there) Luke is Depression. He’s spent most of his life on drugs, disconnecting from the world and wallowing in his hopelessness. Nell is Acceptance. She’s the one who goes back to the House to confront what’s there, and try to put it to rest. And that goes exactly as well as you might imagine…

Yeah, this is a fantastic show and definitely terrifying (one of the biggest jump scares of all time is in this series) but you'll also want tissues ready towards the end because it's really emotional as it dives more into the themes of family trauma and grief. The writing and editing as they jump back and forth through the timelines as the story advances is amazing. Once you're through with the series, and even if you don't react to it, watch the original 1961 film "The Haunting" , that this series is based on, and both from the original novel by Shirley Jackson. It's my favorite haunted house film of all time, and I often recommend it as a double-feature for Halloween, with "The Changeling" that I brought up in a comment on your reaction to "Dr. Strangelove". Really can't wait to watch all your reactions to this show. Lastly, a fun fact: The boy who plays young Luke in this show (Julian Hilliard) was also Wanda & Vision's son, Billy, in 'WandaVision'.

Mike Flanagan took so many threads and rewove the story into this beautiful new tapestry. The mirror Nell dances in front of was a prop from Mike Flanagan's movie Oculus. I adore this series, so it's always nice seeing people react to it, and wow you two are fantastic! Loved this first reaction. The attention to the plot, how jumpy you are (this sounds so mean, but it's funny because I GET IT haha), and your theories. It feels like I entered a time capsule to when I first watched it, but it's also fun to have the benefit of hindsight now. Thank you for reacting to Hill House! So fun! Subscribed!

Fun little trivia bit, do you recognize the actor that plays the younger version of the dad? His first (and probably his most famous) role, was when he starred as Elliott (the little boy) in ET.

Definitely subscribed now lol. I reacted really similarly when I first watched this it was brilliantly written and translated well from books to a tv show. This will blow your mind and the way they pace time is basically “wibbly wobbly timey wimey.”

I'm a very jumpy person and this was very hard for me to watch. I would have stopped 2 or 3 episodes in except the storytelling is so great and I had to at least understand why it was happening. I am so glad I made it through it. It was totally worth it. This is my first reaction of yours and I loved it. I'll be looking for more of your reactions.

There are hidden ghosts in almost every scene of this series, keep an eye on the background instead of the forground when anything is going on in Hill House and you should see faces and other creepy stuff going on.

Watch the story first, then go ghost spotting later on (though it’s fun when you realise some are played by fairly big-name actors)
