Vai and Guthrie are my favorites of all time! Both guitarists express themselves with great skill, feeling and musical idealism! Thank you GG and Vai, (even though this is Guthrie's video, Govan was inspired by the genius of Vai's playing and technical prowess).

I love Guthrie's style, his playing is so fluid, I get the feeling that his guitar is "alive", that it's much more than just some pieces of wood with some pickups bolted in. I feel as if his guitar is singing, he gets that incredible vocal-like sound.

Guys the man in the audiences reaction @ 4:38 is what it's all about. Pure joy and respect, he smiled/shouted and I am sure Guthrie loves that honest exhilaration. I know I was smiling! Fantastic player and just seems to be clean on any set-up.

@Guitareben It really is natural talent though...Look at Shawn Lane, he started playing when he was twelve, worked on tecnique for about 2-3 years, then only worked on music. He never worked on his tecnique again after that. He also never had to develop his speed, it was just there, he just had to clean it up. Lane, along with Govan to an extent, is the definition of natural talent.

@Guitareben If you talk about guthrie's technique, it is true that even though he has awesome technique many people can match him because technique is only a matter of practice like you said. BUT The expression natural talent in relation to guthrie has nothing to do with his technique but with his musical ear, sense of rythm, and creativity. These are indeed improvable traits but reaching guthrie's level demands profound natural talent.

Well my pride just took a swift kick to the side of the head. Guthrie is at the apex of modern guitar playing. He'll either inspire you, frustrate you, or both. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to practice...a lot!

@idolfrets Yeah, but you need to take into account some amps such as solid states dont handle dynamics properly, and no matter how soft or hard you hit the string, it will still sound the same.

@smegsdoppel Why anyone who calls themselves a fan of guitar playing would look for anything negative to say about an obvious master of the instrument is beside me. Paul Kossoff was great and soulful, and I even owned his double album of solo material and Backstreet Crawler music. But to say Guthrie cannot vibrato soulfully is bunk! Maybe you have not heard all of his stuff, particularly obscure recordings made a long time ago. The man is a well-rounded guitar hero!

Well, I must say this. I do know Mr. Govan personally and I think that's why he is so good. You see, he was at me house once and I accidentally left out some "Tim Halcomb" CD. Now I'm not making any false claims, but I could've sworn that I had 12 out and after left there were only 9 there! :-|
