I've just bought one. Great for live harmonies. Live performances have always been a drama when it comes to harmonies. Musicians come and go and along with them, backing vocals. I'm not the lead singer but now I can do all harmonies in any voicing I want just by singing lead along with the main singer (I don't send my lead vocal to PA). The result is absolutely fantastic. This is only possible due to the tremendous flexibility of Voice Live 3, including how you build harmonies up, the easy of storage and access and the various output choices.

Hi Baz, the manual is a bit out of date, since we changed the way the MIDI menu is shown so it's simpler now. Essentially, you've got an input and output section for MIDI. The CC channel and MIDI channel are one in the same. If you're receiving MIDI and see the light on the VL3 screen, you know the channel is correct. Then, you're down to the filters. If you have any filters set, you might be filtering the PC's or CC's. Keep in mind that the filter parameter shows you what you're filtering OUT not what you're letting in.
@bazaxe9 жыл бұрын
TC-Helicon Hi again, I have the filters set to "None" in the MIDI menu. There are no filter setting in the Input or Output menus. I have Firmware Version 1.2.02 Build 187. This is so frustrating. It just don't work how it should do. I rely heavily on what the manual is telling me. Maybe my unit is not working properly or something else is amiss 8-( It is receiving the MIDI message but not changing anything. I have raised a ticket with support but until now received no reply. Could it be something specific to certain preset settings?
@tchelicon9 жыл бұрын
Baz Axe Hi Baz, what specifically are you trying to control?
@tchelicon9 жыл бұрын
TC-Helicon Just as an FYI, the manual mentions a CC channel, but that's been removed and changed to a separate incoming and outgoing MIDI channel. You can't run separate PC and CC channels.

Hello. Are the talkbox/vocoder effects comparable to the ones found on the "Talkbox Synth" and "VoiceTone Synth"? I really (really) like the sound of the Talkbox Synth. Also, can the VL3 do the equivalent of the Talkbox Synth's "Classic+" and "Modern+" settings by having the carrier signal and the vocoded robot voice play at the same time? If so, it is time for an upgrade.

@LindstrandMusic7 жыл бұрын
I bought this last week and I really love it. There are a couple of things I've been wondering about. I also have the Harmony Singer pedal and the tone button on that one is fantastic. Can I get a similar quick fix in the VoiceLive 3 or do I have to edit the EQ, compression, De-essing, manually? Also on that pedal, there's a feature, where your harmony button only lights up, when you have your foot on it. When you lift your foot, the effect. turns off. This is one I really miss. If that feature is possible on VL3, how do I acess it? Thanks in advance.
@tchelicon7 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, Tone in VL3 when set to "Adaptive" is the same algorithm as the one in Harmony Singer. You can tweak from there either with the amount controls or by changing various components to manual operation. Tone settings are in the Setup menu.
@tchelicon9 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, sorry I can't reply to your linked comment. You've probably got replies turned off. We feel that the biggest factor in "real" (beyond the ears of the beholder) is the level of the effect. We tend to push the levels in demos, since folks complain when they're hard to hear on KZbin etc. In practice, setting the levels more realistically can really help with the "natural" feel. Digitech makes different note output decisions than we do. I'd classify them as more dynamic, which can be read as "unpredictable" too. So, sometimes the DT unit will make a harmony we think is better than our choice, but then the next time it won't choose the same note, which can be frustrating. We go for a more set-in-stone output, so you can count on it, but if you don't like one of the notes it can be problematic. In VL3 you can create custom scales to get exactly the output you want. There's also a lot of depth to humanization and eq etc. to mess with as well.

Hi! Love this, but I already have a dedicated guitar setup, does TC Helicon have another device with this same vocal features and without the guitar modeling? Thanks!
@tchelicon9 жыл бұрын
Moisés Gómez No we don't offer an exact device with no guitar processing, but you can use VL3's IN/THRU to bypass all the guitar stuff. Run your guitar directly into the VL3's IN, then go from the THRU to your rig. It's just a buffered bypass to capture the chords and won't affect your tone, so you can just keep using your current rig. The only caveat is that you can't loop guitar sounds with that setup since all internal guitar processing is muted.

Hi there - just bought the VL3 extreme and really liking it. Would love to know if it's possible to create and save entirely new presets while not deleting/ loosing the existing factory presets? ie. can I alter an existing preset and save it somewhere new under a new name on the device?
@tchelicon6 жыл бұрын
Sure can. When you modify an existing preset and want to save it as new, press the Store button once. You can then choose "Store To" and save it to a different location. It's there that you're able to choose a preset location that is currently unused. The way it works in box is that there is a factory bank that takes up the first couple hundred presets. Let's say it's 250 for the example. You'd "Store To" and choose preset 251. That will create a "new" preset at slot 251, just past the factory bank. You can also use "Store To" to overwrite any preset that already exists.

How about processing power on this new unit?Reason I'm asking is, this summer I used Voicelive Play GTX (white one) every night..First of all I noticed processing delay when I was using internal guitar processing (not going out thru) When it comes some acoustic soloing, you could literally feel that it wasn't coming out as you play, and it would threw me off on many occasions.. so I stopped using internal guitar processing and passing out from thru to my other processor.. I also noticed that when use "AutoTune Radio" when I move to next preset in the same song quickly, machine was not able to immediately quit the radio effect, sometimes looping was happening some weird stuff was happening. I was blaming on the not adequate processing power on the machine and maybe very heavy presets etc etc.. So I'm not sure if you acknowledge what I'm talking about and if you could put some input or comparison on the matter. We appreciate TC and great work being done. Thank you. Turk

I'd start with just setting up a couple of presets with different harmony voicings like "High", "Low", "High and Low" etc. and save them next to each other. Start experimenting with which voicings work best with the songs as-is and then start mucking about with adding a pedal voice etc. as you learn where the stock voices fit into things.

hey guys, just got my VL3X, amazing product. I was so excited that by the time it got here I had read the whole manual and seen like 90% of the videos on youtube. Now I am exploring and I have a question. Is there a way to make the delay skip the first repetition or delay the start of the repetitions??? I'm working on the song psycho circus from kiss and there is the part where it repeats show, show, show, after the chorus (i would like to make a step with this), but it is not uniform. Maybe I'm just mistaken but how could I do that, if possible? Thanks.
@tchelicon7 жыл бұрын
Heya Daniel, you're wanting it to repeat at full volume? If that's the case, set the delay feedback to 100% and the level to 0dB. Then, scroll further down the edit screen and turn trails OFF. That will kill the echos as soon as you turn off the switch. You'd turn on the delay when you sing "Show" and then it'll repeat "Show" at full volume (forever if you never turn off the effect). The "Trails" command is per-preset so you can make one preset or step that acts that way. Does that help?
@danielvolgan7 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the quick response. That's an interesting trick to know, but what I need is like I want 3 repetitions but the first it mute. I sing "show" and it repeats "pause", "show", "show". If it's not there, I leave it as a suggestion for a future update to add a time delay (or a mute time) before the repetitions start to kick in. Hope I was clearer in my question. And by the way, how to work with "portamento"? Which parameters affect it? Thanks again. Cheers.
@tchelicon7 жыл бұрын
Ah yep I understand what you're saying. I don't think we have the ability to skip the first repeat. I've also asked for a way to have the delay taps only sent to harmony or other effects so you could do a call and answer type thing. All fun stuff to think about for future products. For portamento, I assume you're talking about in relation to harmony? If so, it's basically the amount of "slide" between the generated harmony notes. Adding varying amounts (but not very much) to each voice can give each harmony a bit more personality. Too much and they become drunk off their a$$ haha
@danielvolgan7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you got it. But it's just software, I'm sure it could be implemented in VL3X in a future update. All cool ideas. Thanks for the explanation on portamento. Some adjustments are very subtle. I am trying to master most of them but it takes some time. Thanks again and keep up with the good work. Cheers.

Hi B; You mention at minute 7:30 or so, where you can plug a synthesizer into the Aux jack. I was wondering if that is from the headphone jack output or from the actual main output of the synth? In other words, the manual shows plugging an MP3 player into the Aux jack. That is typically a headphone level signal. I have both available. Please advise. Thanks.

Jeffrey Cranston The Aux in jack is set up to take devices like phones, HP outs and other line type level signals. That said, the mains from a keyboard work just fine. They tend to be closer to line level than mic.

It would be awesome if the harmony scroll order would modulate around the circle of 5ths/4ths instead of chromatically so that you can move through keys in an order that would make musical sense (aka adding sharps or flats). This would be FAR a more useful tool for working musicians than the current system. Also the inclusion of more exotic scale options and church modes would be great. Props to TC for choosing harmonies of the non-diatonic pitches that work great in the harmonizer, btw!

i just bought an extreme. i have a problem. or im confused. i do not have any dry output from xlr 'voice - L mono' output when 'mono output' mode in setup menu is selected. What I mean is NO sound/signal can be heard when no effect is on. And activating an effect e.g delay or reverb or (it would seem) doubling etc, results in hearing only those wet output signals. This also occurs if the output mode is set to ‘stereo’, in this instance both left and right voice outputs only output fx wet signal.

does this thingie have compressor included? allso i want to know about voicelive touch. i go live with fonograms.. does voicelive touch make me more into the song ? i mean decent echoes and compressing.

+leo lehepuu Yep, both have compression as a part of the Tone function. VL3 offers you some further control of the compressor in a manual mode, Touch does not. Touch and VL3 both have a wide variety of echos available.

Hi! Can the unit be used with a keyboard and guitar at the same time (keyboard for chord tracking and guitar for effects processing and amp simulation), while getting the lead note form a vocal mic? Or would it result in one cancelling the other?

kmzproton If you have the guitar into the guitar input and the keys via the Aux (and or MIDI) you can swap instruments back and forth for NaturalPlay. Simultaneously playing keys/guitar through the guitar effects might sound cool, but the chord detection could get unpredictable.

Tom, I have a VL3 which I haven't used on a gig yet and I've just bought a new Shure Beta 87A. I know I need to change the mic to condenser on the VL3 but do I also have to switch my mixer ( Mackie Profx12) to 48V? Sorry for the basic question but I bet you'd know.

Heya Don, run the VL3 with "condenser" as the mic and turn phantom off on your mixer.

Hi there, How would I connect my TC HELICON voicebox to my Bose compact L1 system?
@tchelicon9 жыл бұрын
Lise Lo You can connect directly from the XLR outputs of the TC-H device to the Mic input on the L1. Make sure you flatten the EQ's on the L1 and watch out for correct gain staging between the devices. This video tells you all about gain etc. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6KTcoKqlst8oNU Even though it's "Mixer Setup" it's identical to how you'd approach the L1.

Question: I need something like this for vocals, but don't need any of the guitar FX, what other product that you have is the right choice for that? (I do play guitar while I sing, but I control the effects for that from my pedal board)

You can use the guitar in/thru on VL3 which will still capture guitar chords for key/scale detection but will mute all the internal guitar sounds. You'd go into the VL3, thru to your pedals and on to your amp.
