This is great info! Exercise always makes me go high which is the opposite of what I want it to do most of the time. It seems like my liver is a drama queen as I also have a strong dawn phenomenon. I'm hoping to try a GLP to help with that!

We shared your comment with Dr. Edelman, and here is his response: "Haha! My liver is a total drama queen too! I'm glad you learned something, as I did, because people think exercise typically lowers blood sugar. A GLP-1 could help, but without a GLP-1 there are ways to control your blood sugar after exercise so you won't get that spike, such as a cool down period, and perhaps a small bolus as you're finishing your exercise."

Rarely have lows doing cardio PT. 4-6 mile runs, 25-60 mile bike rides, 4 mile kayaks. It happens more often lifting or walking. Use Omnipod so no basal gaps. I only used the exercise setting on a very hot 75 mile ride at 19 MPH. Worked well.

Yes, most people do tend to go low. Dr. Edelman added, "For people who really do intense exercise and cut back on their insulin during exercise, that's the situation where they'd go up after they stop exercising."

I wish my endo was type 1. Not to wish this scourge on anyone, but just so she understood what the day to day is like. She is all about the numbers, which have their place, but JAYSUS, it is like she has no idea.

We hear that a lot! We shared your comment with Dr. Edelman, and here is his response, "It sounds like you have a well-trained endo who doesn't live with type 1, but be glad that she does pay attention to the numbers, and try to educate her on what it's like to live with type 1 as best you can when you see her!

OMG, that happened to me after a half-marathon. I finished the race, having had reduced basal going in, had a banana cuz I thought I would need it. Jumped on the bus home-30 minutes. Felt nauseous getting off bus. 300 BG. FFS.

Sheesh! Yes, it happens! Congrats on running a half-marathon though...way to go! 👏
