I have followed a whole food, plant-based diet for over 10 years. I've had T1D for 42 years and tried every diet from ADA to Keto. This way of eating has changed my life. Insulin sensitivity is way high, I now take only between 15 - 18 units of insulin and eat a total of 200 complex healthy carbs a day. Back in the day I was injected up to 40 units a day. Time in Range runs 92- 95% and A1C typically 5.6 to 5.8. It's the way to go for Type 1's.

It's great that plant based diets are becoming recognised for the many health benefits they bring. As a person with Type 1 diabetes for 49 years, when I changed to this way of eating 18 months ago, I very quickly got my insulin sensitivity back. I would encourage anyone with diabetes, Type 1 or 2, to read an excellent book by Neal Barnard, "Reversing Diabetes" 😊
