Great tips, Tim an Landon! I use wire keychains in the same manner as the carabiner for all kinds of materials. It works very well for flash. I snip a bottom corner of the bag and pull out strands as needed. No need to even take them off of the wire. I have also been using the Storehouse 25 box storage system from Harbor Freight for hook and bead storage. I have a simple thermal label maker that I can use to label each individual box for easy identification. A great way to store dubbing is to make your own dubbing boxes also. I use the Lost Creek 18 compartment plastic boxes for this and drill holes in the bottom. A bag of dubbing fits perfectly into the compartments.

Huge fan of Landon's flies. Already both feet in a storage system for hooks but the baseball card sheets is a good idea.

Awesome tips & advice,for newer tiers walk into a fly shop & the patterns available & materials can blow 1's mind,ditto with the internet 🤯 my advice is 3 fold simplify,start slow & don't compare,figure out what your local species are tie for those,simple patterns first,ease into it & your not anyone else you have your own style work with that,tight lines & bent rods 🤘

My bench is in the spare bedroom, but it is carpeted. Those "bouncy and invisible" hooks that fly off the bench become a real problem!

Great tips. One question, I would assume that when he is making the pattern pouches, he is pulling the materials from a stock location. Or is he purchasing specifically to fill the pattern pouch? I could see a lot of patterns sharing materials.
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek, and that is really up to each individual tier. I tend to pull from a stock location for my pouches, but that's because I have a rotating array of patterns that I tie at fly fishing shows and events around the country. I also believe that many tiers may simply have a pouch or container for each pattern, especially those who only tie a handful of flies. Hope that helps and would love to know the direction you take it! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Lol, oldest son got a hook in his foot when he was about 6yo. Still cringes when he sees a deer hair mouse. He's in his 40s now.
