how am I supposed to know how many charges a specific transition metal can have and which charges? for example: on the first problem that was solved on this video, chromium is able to have 3 different types of charges (2+,3+ and 6+). How do I learn how to distinguish that?
@brixtromartin34658 жыл бұрын
You must balance the charge with the nitrogen so the 2+ charge matches
@gloriagonzalez38118 жыл бұрын
Gustavo Dutra my highschool chemistry teacher made us memorize these numbers
@ayonsaha79636 жыл бұрын
@Gustavo Dutra, you don't distinguish the different ionic charges right off the bat. You first identify the ionic charge of an element that never changes. For example, Chlorine. It's ionic charge is always -1. Now that you've determined that, you have to make sure that the other element must have an ionic charge where the sum of both ionic charges equal to zero.

Hello Mr. DeWitt! I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Its refreshing to see teachers that are so passionate about teaching and want students to learn. Unfortunately, they are not thanked enough by their students and thats why I wanted to say thank you! Im preparing for a test on Tuesday and your videos are saving me right now haha. You are so thorough when explaining concepts and all the different ways that you could do them/common mistakes that are made which is extremely helpful since I tend to over think things!
