that's a really tricky question! here's a hint: the potassium nitrate is the system, and the water in the beaker is the surroundings. so which direction is heat flowing? from where to where?

Hey tyler, i had a question in my biology notes im not quite understanding. "When potassium nitrate dissolves in water, the beaker containing the solution gets cooler. is dissolving this salt an exothermic or endothermic process?" i initially thouht it would be exothermic as heat is energy and the beaker is cooler, therefore heat would be leaving. but ive recently been told it's endothermic and dont understand why. thanks in advance for any help.
