Thanks, Cody. I think I speak for everyone when I say we're all very appreciative of your reviews. I see Zombicide there in the background. I finally had a chance to play this past weekend during the international tabletop weekend extravaganza here in Houston. Fun game!

What are the 'states of seige' games? Are they like the coin series?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer3 жыл бұрын
No. I have not yet played a COIN game. States of Siege are usually solitaire, and essentially it's a game where the player is trying to hold a central location from enemies who advance along several different tracks. The point is to use your limited resources to beat back the enemies and hold them off for a number of turns. Generally, every States of Siege game is a variation on this theme.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer ah ok ty. Sounds a bit like pandemic fall of rome.

I haven’t played that one.

Great list. I checked out the companies website. Nice to see their games are very affordable. No one needs an over abundance of plastic minitures to have a great gaming experience. An active imagination is always the best.

The company was recently sold, so not all of their titles are currently available.

I'd put three of your honorable mentions into MY Top 5! Just shows that VPG makes some terrific stuff.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. VPG has made some great games!

Hi.... how about DVG games and (IF you haven't done it yet) Fantasy Flight... thanks
@TheDiscriminatingGamer6 жыл бұрын
I'm sure I'm gonna hit FFG sooner or later. Unfortunately, I think I've only ever played one or two DVG games, so I don't think that's on the horizon.

I've become very interested in WWI in the past two years.... there is a KZbin series called "The Great War" with indie Neidel...I hope your cashing in on that... it really makes all the twists and turns of the war illuminated. Years ago I picked up a neat little game called "Trench Foot" which was about trench fighting on several war fronts. While the production was very 1980's... it was an amazing game. I also own AH's "1914"... try playing "Blind squares and dummy Counters" if you like "Fog of War"... neat game.

In terms of Victory Point games, my favorite is "Moseby's Raiders"... a solo game about guerrilla war in Virginia. I'd like to buy and play "Zulu" and "Keep up the Fire"
@TheDiscriminatingGamer6 жыл бұрын
Haven't played "Moseby's Raiders." I'll have to look into.

How many of these have decent production and components?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer6 жыл бұрын
It depends upon what you mean by decent. Personally, I think they're all great for what they are.

Did you ever try Napoleonic 20? I wonder how good it is.

No. That's one I should look into.

I notice you did not mention Nemo's War. Was that because you have not played it or thought the listed games were better?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer6 жыл бұрын
I have not played Nemo's War. Perhaps sometime down the line.

Great video, but I'm a little disappointed. No mention of Healthy Heart Hospital or Nemo's War? HHH is one of my all time favorite games and if it ever went mainstream, I think it would have the same level of appeal as Pandemic. And Nemo's War is just an amazing solo game.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer4 жыл бұрын
I haven't played either of those, but I've heard good things.

Good to see VP Games get a mention, they make great games. As part of your WW1 studies, are you familiar with the performance of the Australians on the Western Front ? Being the one hundredth anniversary of some of their greatest battles, though very costly in lives.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! VPG is indeed a great company! I am familiar with the contributions of the ANZAC troops in World War I. Gallipoli was a terrible tragedy- one of many in a long, bloody, and pointless war.
@Kili1214166 жыл бұрын
But their greatest achievements were still to come on the Western Front.

My first association with state of siege would be Stalingrad. I have the boxed Ottoman in the closet somewhere. Got Darkest Night Second edition which I hated, was so happy to be rid of that garbage. Not impressed at all be VPG games. Most VPG youtubers disliked cruel necessity for that matter. Sos type games might have been interesting in 1970 but the world has moved on. Nowadays people want more agency and single tier decks are always a terrible idea.

I actually enjoy the SOS system. They are not my favorite games, but I find them fun.
