Hands On: Zulus on the Ramparts!

A complete play through of this States of Siege solitaire strategy game from Victory Point Games. The video is annotated where I made some mistakes, but I'm hoping it still gives the viewer a good overview of game play.

John McGuinness John, about 90% of my gaming is solo, and these States of Siege games really can't be beat for a great mix of quick setup time, theme, strategy, playability and just plain fun.

35:30 Firing the Reserve platoon rolls two '4' dice which also are retreats (target being on fire). You even said it on video! So 3 retreats, not 1 - the extra from the card.

After firing the reserve platoon the two cards that formed it should have been placed back in your hand and would have to be reformed to use the second fire reserve platoon card.

I got kinda burnt on buying this game on E-bay a month or so ago.. Thought I was buying an old "deluxe" Box(this) version but I got a "newer" 2nd copy printing of the soft-pack game for $70. Which is the avg price for a soft-pack, this old box version is about $90-100. My mistake, but I at least have a copy now. Note: The newer soft pack copies/2nd printing are "minimally cheap" and have a different printed version of the map board , it has no standees , cheap card-stock, no designer notes/addenda, no extra cards/counters and the rules are in a foldout , not a magazine/booklet format. If you buy this rare game, be prepared for what it costs and what you might get for a hard-copy. It is a good solo/TD game , one of the 1st and best. IMO

23:59 you say you have a -1 DRM that turn, then you fire fix bayonets that turn at 25:03. Shouldn't the 6 be a 5, and it be a retreat, not a hit (casualty)? Then you discard your hero to take more actions, shouldn't those also be at a -1 modifier?

Also you neglected to imply the DRM -1 for the Zulu sniper card, which means the Loins would not have been eliminated but only forced to retreat one space. And then you dismissed a Loin advance chit because the Loins had been eliminated which, of course, they had not. I declare this game null and void at best.

+Al Wilson (Hands-On Games) Sorry, I didn't mean to nitpick. I was just wondering if you were making a joke. His name is Schiess (rhymes with fleece), but you were calling him Scheiss and even spelled it like that in the note you put up. I thought you were making a joke because Scheiss, in German, means "crap." Schiess, by the way, means "shooting" so it's a pretty cool name for a real soldier to have. I just really wasn't sure if you were doing it on purpose or didn't like the guy or something. Anyway, I did finally get around to finishing the video, and it was great. I like that you don't have annoying or long intro music, like so many other board game casters, and you don't break up the videos into 10-minute chunks so you can put lots of ads on them. Thanks! You also did a great job of explaining what was going on, and you were very animated without getting mad when things weren't going so well. Sorry for the long comment. Short version is "keep up the good work, please!"

58:36 , should have used Bromhead's card to draw 2 additional cards rather than a volley. That would have enabled winning on the last card drawn 50/50 before the last drawn Zulu chit.
