My advice on what you can realistically do with 2 weeks in Italy and some tips so you can pre-plan your trip! With 14 days in Italy you can do a lot more things than 7 days and in this video I give my advice under the assumption that you are possibly coming to Italy for the first time!
Exploring Italy is a passion of mine and I understand the desire to want to cram all types of places to see in 2 weeks, but unfortunately you'll have to prioritize and thus the aim of this video. I don't believe this itinerary is a one size fits all, however my gamble is that it's what a good majority of people would find appealing and it's also a two week game plan that I myself would consider doing. This video however is under the assumption that you are partially losing a day of travel because the 1st day is spent arriving in Italy and then going home on the 14th day.
If you only remember one thing from this video I hope it's the idea of "Less is more"! Also, try and find time to relax which is best accomplished by applying the abovementioned concept! Buon viaggio!

I’m a different type of tourist for each place I visit. sitting on the beach, maybe a little nightlife, lots of food and a few famous sites. but oddly never museums. One thing I notice is that i love just kind of digging in and being less tourist and more trying to live like the locals. Or at least an idealized version of what i think a local would be doing :-) And I really love just wandering around on foot taking in the architecture, shops, sites and big scenery

I also like traveling like that. Real tourism is making an attempt to understand how the people of that place live and what their local customs are. Although, I think museums are for both the locals and tourists.

Very good video which I'd recommend to those who have never been to Italy. I agree with all the general tips you've given here too. On one of my trips to Rome we did take a side trip to Tivoli and explored Villa D'Este and the town. On another trip I started inTurin then went to Lucca for a few days, half day trip to Pisa and ended in Rome. Yes, I climbed the tower. 18€ and totally worth it especially if the money goes to its preservation. I've been to Naples on daytrips from Rome as well as staying there a few days to discover more of the city, and to visit Pompeii. I loved Spaccanapoli, and made my way to the harbor on another trip there to watch all the ferries leaving the dock. My goal was toknow where to go for a future trip to Ischia. You mentioned the island here and I most definitely want to go there. I did a daytrip to Capri from Sorrento on another trip, had lunch in Positano, but visited Amalfi town on a totally different trip many years prior. I'm an "everything" tourist when it comes to Italy, Food, Architecture, History, Relaxation, Nature. Florence is such a charming city I can't help wanting to go back just for the art and wine! I still haven't been to the Piazzale though! Another trip over a decade ago I stayed in Siena but did a day tour offered by my hotel; a city of Siena bus tour, and a day trip to San Gimignano and wine tasting at the town of Ulignano at Tenuta Torciano. Over the years I've discovered Venice, Verona, Bologna, Ravenna, Lago Como towns (by boat), Cinque Terre, Genova, Italian Riviera, Milan, Bari and towns along the Adriatic (relaxation trip), and generally ending every trip in Rome, sometimes coming to Italy with only spending time in Rome. My next trip, provided the Covid-19 virus doesn't shut down Italy, will be all about the beach and swimming and sun in Sardinia. I've heard about the beach town of Santa Marinella just north of Rome so that might be a little side trip once I get back from the island. This is mid to late August. Another great vid. Hope you're feeling better. Ciao🇺🇲✈🇮🇹

I am indeed feeling better. In fact I was feeling better the next day! I wouldnt worry about the virus. Everything is still running normally here and I don't even see people walking around with masks. To catch the boat to Ischia take the aliscafo, which is the faster boat from Molo Beverello which is near Piazza Municipio. Or you can get it from Pozzuoli and save a few euros. Thank you!!

Going for 2 weeks on February. Wondering why Vatican wasn't included in the list? Think I'll stay mainly in the north and do Rome, Florence, Milan, and Venice with day trips from each city.

David thanks for another great video that helps us loads to plan for our Italy trip! Got a quick ? We’re looking to save some $ and will be visiting Rome for 2 days. Is the coliseum/palatine/forum truly worth the $ and time? Or can it be enjoyed walking nearby, specially at night? Love & value your candid and honest view on visiting Italy! Thank you, from Texas

Hi Liz! Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot to me! Good question and I would say that if you are a total history buff, like myself, I'd definitely consider a pass to go inside and explore around as both can easily zap up half your day if not more. DO reserve ahead of time! I've been in the Colosseum only twice in my life and I'd gladly go back and spend a few hours there but whether I'd get a guided tour is up for debate. It would depend on the quality of the guide and their knowledge vs someone who just memorizes a script and can't answer your questions. Yes, you can in fact easily enjoy the Colosseum, Circo Massimo and the Roman forums just by walking past them, which I do frequently. As for Rome itself, if you're there for the history then consider getting the Roma pass which I do have a video on. Don't worry, I am not affiliated with them and I never will be hehehe ! But the pass will get you some free entrances and then once those are used up you get reduced rates and pre-paid public transportation. Hope that helps, let me know!

Planning a first-time 14-day trip in August. Enjoyed the video (will probably now watch a few others). I don't think we are going to take on as much as you have in the video; staying mostly in the north; probably more time in Rome (with a day trip to Pompeii), a little in Cinque Terra, Florence, and Venice. Historical locations are high on the list, though also natural beauty and local culture. No interest in shopping or beach time. Of course, looking forward to Italian food, but neither of us are foodies, so we won't be hard to please (wife is currently on a low-carb diet, but I'm pretty sure that will go out the window for the trip). We are typically go-go-go on vacations, but we're going to try and slow it down. Thanks for any thoughts you have!

Hi Robert! I like how you travel! I also don’t care about the beach or shopping! Anyway, thinking of just the North I have a few suggestions. I suggest Umbria as it is beautiful region and the food is great (I know you aren’t a foodie, but you’ll undoubtedly want to eat well!) The towns of Perugia, Foligno and Orvieto are nice, clean and historical. There is a great Noble family house in Foligno that I enjoyed. In Veneto you should try Treviso which is a lot calmer than Venice and if you want history but a tad touristy try Verona and Padova. I enjoyed all these towns. Lastly, I suggest Trentino Alto Adige. It’s a fascinating area of Italy, clean, organized and with a distinct Germanic influence in their food, buildings and language. I was in Bolzano, Merano and Bressanone. Do check out the thermal baths in Merano as you can go swimming and get a good view of the mountains at the same time. These are all places I’ve been so I can back up what I say. I really enjoyed all of them and none of them involve the sea! Hope that helps, Buon Viaggio!

Yeah, The cancellation charges are actually more than double the cost of ticket itself. This is how it is with low cost Airlines in EU. Next time I will make sure to buy their flex option to accommodate sudden changes.

Hey David. I’ll be in Rome at the end of March. With all the craziness going on do you see a difference in the crowds or just tourists in general?
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Honestly.....no. There is certainly talk about it but I don't even see people walking around with masks here. I suspect this will all end in a matter of time because I think it's a lot of panic for nothing. ALTHOUGH it is something to be concerned about and being clean along with a dose of common sense would help. What does concern me is going back and forth between here and the USA. I wonder if passport checks will be more stringent. Anyway, don't worry, for the time being everything in the capital appears normal.
