The turbo noise low down is due to the map, basically whoever mapped it has tried to bring the turbo in too early and it causes the compressor surge which is what you where getting basically needs the turbo map easing low down, hope this helps :)

Just now, checking out your channel, what a killer channel you've created with some phenomenal work you're doing. Watching this video, not sure if you've solved all your problems or not with the EGT's but I've got bigger injectors in my 5.9 cummins, and since them I've always had a problem with EGT's Talked with many people even had the guys at fire punk return my, smarty turner. Bigger inner cooler from banks, even threw a water meth kit on it. Still get EGT'S in the 1400's when towing. Come to find out, one single turbo won't solve the problem. I'm needing compounds, the reason for this is, a bigger turbo, won't give you boost at bottom end, and a bigger turbo will give you turbo flutter at bottom end, because it can't spool fast enough. Not to familiar with the VW TDI's, but with bigger injectors always means more fuel being dumped, and that creates higher EGT's. Just something to look into. I was also told a VVT turbo would work, but the power I want, it won't solve the problems

i actually built my car based off yours, gt18/56v xman turbo, full harpipe boost kit, bew intake ect. and kerma TDI has been my source and it makes 240 to the wheel no issue, would highly reccomend if you are experimenting.

Always heard good things about Malone tuning. I'll be using them when I do my TDI Ranger. Turbo flutter would be a tuning issue since the computer is controlling the VGT

my brother had the same problem w/ the turbo flutter at around 1500 rpm under full throttle. he described it sounding like a knat flying up a wolfs ass. hope this helps. he is a very descriptive fellow !

1500 full throttle is too low rpm. Boost surges can happen

I could be ignorant as hell sounding but shouldn’t the engine be running cooler if the outside temp is lower weren’t you testing the other tune on warmer days?

Not ignorant at all, a lower ambient will result in a cooler air charge (both before and after intercooler) and lower EGT. To be truly accurate and "scientific" there should have been a run made before and after downloading the new tune for a better comparison.

How reliable do you think a tdi swapped tacoma would be buying used? Got a guy with a 92 tacoma with a 99 ALH TDI in it, he says it runs great with no problems. Didnt mention much about tuning, he did mention hes about to put a bigger turbo in it? I'm decently mechanically inclined, but not sure how straightforward these swaps can be, said it's been swapped for 8 months, do you think this is something I'm going to have alot of issues with? Or something I'll probably enjoy with easy fixes and decent reliability?

Am considering this swap. I have a Toyota extended cab 4x4 with a bad engine . I driven vw diesel cars for a long time and I prefer the TDI I think the ALH . I do all my own work as far a service work . I never checked the egts on my vw as its stock . Sure I keep a check on my Dodge 5.9 12 valve . I never used Malone but head good things about him . . I guess a good set of head studs would be a good idea if your running a lot of boost . I like to run the timing up a bit on mine with the vag com

you have a heavy vehicle, big tires, and a poor little alh in it, it’s working hard and has lots of load, therefor you are going to get high egts, which, they weren’t that high either. Not hating on the build, it’s awesome, but just saying that they really didn’t do anything incredible, seems like your last tuner wanting you to still be able to have fun in it. Malone seems like they just wanted to pull the fuel to make it seem like it’s the greatest thing in the world and get a good review.
