How did u get the second alternatori bolt out. The one on the top that's behind the tensioner

I took a look at my 2008 tdi beetle and it is a totally different layout, the alternator is easily accessible from the top, VW must have changed the layout .

Tdi without AC has quite a different layout. So alternator replacement is easier. With AC it is like in this video. It is what it is

Using a ratchet strap after pulling the wishbone to get more room. Haveinf a hard time with one of the fan screws

If your Injection pump is being swapped out can't alternator be pulled out from the top?

Ummm, what about the part where you have to pull out the belt tensioner? There is no way it comes out without doing that. I know because I just got done fighting with it for 11/2 hours in my driveway.

I just changed my alternator by removing the fan and not the whole front clip!. I have very little mechanical experience and did it in my driveway..

Rory Coolbaugh , did you have to remove the a/c compressor and disconnect the tubes attached to it or can it just be moved aside without disconnecting the tubes?

I had no problem asking $35,000.00 for an oil change. $2,000.00 is a fare price to install an alternator on VW Beetle. As you know many complete spark plugs/coils replacements are over $1,500.00.

i was in a forum and a half a doz members said "take the bumper off" we i just did that and to my surprise theres maybe 5-10% more room. i should have looked a bit more. that was almost 2 hours wasted.

your full of it I'm doing this job right now and there is no way possible to come out the bottom with only fan assy and ac compressor. you have to remove power steering also plus radiator mounting to slide everything forward and still came out with trouble. you should post a video of it comeing out like you say it will!!! I'd like to see it.

It is *so* ridiculous! I will eventually be looking at a starter replacement in my '97 DeVille. Now where, in their infinite wisdom, did Cadillac decide to *place* these things? IN the engine UNDER the intake manifold...which, of course, means ripping the top half of the engine apart. Stupid, STUPID move, GM!!

I came to find this video because my buddy said a Jetta shouldn't take 3 hours to simply pull the damn alternator OUT... My Jetta and basic reports have convinced me to never buy another Jetta. I've worked on many cars and everything is hard to get at on this game not to mention WTF, why require a damn triple-square. Just made the damn head a hex or star, shit. VW you've lost a customer, the Altima is in the driveway while the Jetta takes up the garage and hits Craigslist next week. 2008 Jetta, hell 2K at this point is worth getting rid of this POS.
