Adam, I'm originally from Beaumont, Texas. (bow-mont) This brought back so many memories, so much nostalgia, and I'm a huge fan of Janis. Thank you so much for visiting here. It really makes me miss my family and home town/state.

Thanks for the tribute to Janis Joplin. I immediately thought of her song Piece of My Heart. My mother loved Tex Ritter so the tribute to Tex Ritter brought back fond memories of my mother who has been deceased for many years. Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Thanks, Adam. Loved this video. I lived in that area for 30+ years, so it really brought back memories. I must say though, that Janis was a firebrand and a rebel and not at all appreciated in her home town of Port Arthur. Now that she is a legend, they'll cash in on her fame as much as possible, but when she was alive she was the town pariah. Janis' true home will always be San Francisco, California, where she finally found friends and acceptance,
@AdamWasHere8 жыл бұрын
I grew up in the SE TX area. Actually Groves, which is the neighboring town of Port Arthur, only a few miles apart. My parents when to Thomas Jefferson High School (I believe now it's Memorial HS). They were a little younger than Janis, but my aunt also went to high school there and was a freshman at the same time Janis was a senior, so they technically went to school together. Then shortly after, Janis moved up to where I am now, in Austin TX and she performed a few times at Threadgill's. Then of course the rest is history when she made her way over to San Francisco. "Little Girl Blue" is the latest, great documentary over Janis and her short, but very interesting and impactful life in music history.

Loved John Ritter, I met him at a Beatles convention many years ago and he was not one of the guests he was there shopping for collectibles. He was a huge Beatles fan and in his bedroom, on the set of "Threes Company" you can see a painting of the Beatles hanging on the wall and he also starred in Ringo Starr's TV special in 1978. Also on that TV show was Carrie Fisher, Vincent Price, Art Carney, and Angie Dickenson.

Not sure how I came across this video... lol! I live just a mile or so from Janis' high school home. Just north of Port Neches (pronounced NACHES by the way lol) is Nederland. There's a park there dedicated to Texas Ritter. Nederland's heritage is dutch, so the park has a very large windmill. It's actually quite interesting.

Which way ya headed through Texas? West, South, North? If you're headed south along the coast, be sure to explore the area of the lost city of Indianola. Then keep going south, cross the bridge from Corpus to north Padre island and explore the Padre Island national seashore. You can park Marge on the beach, build a campfire and enjoy a night of sea air and warm water. If you're going through Dallas/Fort Worth shoot me a PM, lots of good spots to Vdocument, and a safe spot to park Marge and grab a home cooked meal. If you're head toward Austin, you have to go to Lockhart for 3 of the best BBQ joints in the world. West of Austin is the very scenic town of Marble Falls...

The artist who built the shell wall also built The Old Mill at a park in Little Rock (where a few scenes from Gone with the Wind were filmed) and he also built the Crystal Shrine Grotto in Memphis.
