Once your dog walks nicely on a lead, comes back when called, is calm around other dogs then you can teach them the release command (in context of the walk) to communicate to them when it is time to play.

** PS: I NEED YOUR HELP **
My goal is to better the lives of #onemilliondogs in my lifetime. It is clearly impossible for me to do this on a one to one basis. I have seen that with around every thousand views on my videos, I get a comment or email thanking me and letting me know the video has helped. So working on that basis, I have to make videos on how to address every problem
behaviour and accumulate ONE billion views in order to help 1,000,000 dogs.
You can help me reach #onemilliondogs by (1) subscribing to my channel and (2) give this video a thumbs up - so KZbin suggests this video to more dog owners and we can help 1,000,000 dogs all over the world. Thank you so much!
** THANK YOU **

That took a lot of patience, coupled with a real knowledge of a dog's needs. You're, truly an inspiration. I've delayed my retirement, because there's nowhere to go, so I haven't got a dog, yet. Sadly, there will be no shortage of abandoned 'lockdown' dogs. I'm hoping to step up to the mark, soon.

I love watching your videos ..thank you so much for all the great work you’re doing… I love that harness… But everytime I put a harness on my mini Aussie Mia she just turned eight months well the 19th she will be eight months if I put a harness on her she pulls if I put a collar on her she pulls the pulling situation is not good… Everything else .. will most everything she’s so good., I’ve taught her lots a little tricks.. she’s really good at those… But coming that’s a whole Nother story that’s all on her own time..Unless I get annoyed with her… Then she comes… Again thank you so much for all these great videos

I watched your videos on Dante and Jazz and i find so many similarities with my Japanese Spitz dog. I have had 3 trainers before and the last one ended with him in the vet with a heat stroke. Miraculously he survived that and I have given up on him ever being trained to behave well on walks without lunging and going into a frenzy whenever he sees another dog. But with your videos I am going to try again. Your methods and advice are not what I have seen before and I find them very insightful, for example, paying attention to nuances and emotional intelligence rather than rule based, and letting your dog actually see us taking charge of the situation and putting him out of danger’s way. Many times, i have been told that dogs can sense the energy of the human and we need to exude this confident energy but I find that really vague. And also I noticed that you never stop touching or assuring Dante that it’s ok when he sees another dog and starts whining cos I was told that’s wrong and I am encouraging the dog’s anxious behaviour and not allowing him to confront his fears. Your approach is completely different and I really wanna try them. For once, I feel my sog has another chance!

Total pleasure to watch how you have progressed with Dante. May I ask how long it's taken to get to this stage? ie since he came to stay with you? I realise with every dog it is different and that there are countless different factors to take into account (genetics, heritage, diet, history, health, environment etc and every dog is an individual) so you may consider the question pointless. But I am just interested as you mentioned that Dante had been rehearsing his reactivity for several years and it is obvious that you don't live in an area that it is easy to take a dog reactive dog outdoors. On the plus side he's currently living with an incredible trainer so I'm kind of thinking, given a worst case X scenario what is the best possible outcome? ( and then maybe multiple it by 50 for us everyday, normal, Joe Bloggs type dog guardians!!!!)

Dante looks like a world has been lifted off his shoulders and i hope to do the same. all the best

He's doing great now. Is Dante staying with you permanently? Sorry if you've been asked this before but what harness do you use and would you recommend it for my Frenchie? He has used a Julius k9 but I find he behaves better with a regular collar and lead and to be honest the k9 is a bit small so if I'm going to buy a new one it'd be good to get one that you recommend. Thanks and take care 🤘

My dog walks nicely on lead, comes back when called when on lead and is calm when we see and pass other dogs. We have spent many hours walking close to the fence outside the small community dog park watching the dogs play and sitting close to the fence while remaining calm. When I observe that the dogs inside that park are smaller and not a threat to my dog, I allow him to go inside the dog park. My dog will smell a few butts, and maybe let others smell his butt but that is about it. He does not actively play with other dogs. He just walks around the dog park and then we leave. I do not know if this is because he is a Shiba Inu and this breed is antisocial. Is it important that he interacts or plays with other dogs and be social? Or is it ok that he remains antisocial where he is calm when we see and pass other dogs while he is on lead?
@nigelreed
@nigelreed 2 жыл бұрын
It's not important that he interacts - some dogs are indifferent to other dogs. However there is likely some fear he has of other dogs which is why he is behaving like that which is ideal if it addressed.
@elvafong3591

I do sense that my dog has some insecurity around dogs (he has never met) that are bigger than him. In order to address this I have been taking him to the outside fence of the dog park where he loves to lay with his back right up against the fence and perfers to ignore the dogs playing inside. Do you have suggestions on another way I can address this?
