Teach your dog to heel competition style takes a little more work than just getting your dog to do a loose leash walk. In this video lesson I give you some tips to get that fancy AKC IPO Obedience style heel. There are a couple of tools that may help you achieve an even better result and I address one of them in this video.

Awesome stuff Robert! Could you possibly do a similar video and maybe even others about how to train differently-abled dogs like blind/deaf dogs to do these heels and other commands? I’m adopting a blind husky/german Shepard and I would love a few tips and I know a lot of other people could probably use them too :)

Hello! I recently came across your channel. I'm binge watching your videos! I will be bringing home my first GSD puppy at the end of May. Question: Are you using two separate words, as in "Fuss" for focus heel and then "heel" for loose leash walking?

I am certain that the moment I start using this tool, some neighbors will say I'm hurting the dog. I can actually go to prison if my actions get missinterpreted. I tend to correct my dogs with a choke leash and I'm always aware of my surroundings.

Again great content Robert! Good job :) A small non related question. In a lot of positive only circles I read the opinion that there are no dominant dogs. Just dominant behaviour. What is your opinion on that?
@nicksantosTV

dogs are pack animals, from what I understand theirs always a leader and the rest follow. I could be wrong.
@treatsandleashes1284
@treatsandleashes1284 3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. The dominance theory has been disproven for quite some time, including from the guy that it originated from. In packs, dogs can take on different roles at different times, even sometimes based on their moods.

@@treatsandleashes1284 Interesting! But I guess you can still speak from dominant breeds? Breeds that tend to have more dominant behaviour then other breeds?
@treatsandleashes1284
@treatsandleashes1284 3 жыл бұрын
@@vissert2841 There are more assertive breeds and personalities just as there are more timid, fearful, aggressive, or any other trait - just like there are people. It's not about "dominating" anything...
