I received a 4 year old Parralette who isn't very tame. I can pick him up or touch him. I will land on me at times. He has also fallen asleep sitting on my chest. Today he landed on my wrist. First time on my skin. He stayed for a few minutes. When he is getting tired he gets close to me or on me and falls asleep there. I spend 2 to 6 hours just spending time with him. He will eat from my hand both inside and outside his cage. He doesn't follow commands or want me be the one who touches. Do you have any tips, tricks or general advice for me. When it comes to birds, Emily, building rapport is important just like any other animal. It'll take some time for him to adjust to you, and perhaps to touch in general. Just listen to what he and his body language tell you, and spend time with him to get him used to being around you. Some pets are the kind that will come to you rather than wanting you to come to them, and some can learn to appreciate affection when they don't initiate.

I git a 15 years old african grey his owner died and person had bird he was covered all day and night. So now 3 months later he has adjusted to busier. Household.and trying to speak but . Saying a few words but. Defo the way he whistle it's as if he not far from sating sentence. But no matter what he's mine I can't get him step up were still at stage were at 1 point you went near him he take your hand off. Now since got training stand he shows no nerves towards the family. So he coming on great but about. Talking he makes alot of sounds like a weird noise. But also sounds like a word but some it happens that quick. My ara nobilis can say "Vera" (her own name), "potvora" (which means beast in my language, but it's not that harsh), "frrr" (when we're fine with flying at the time around the house we say frr, so that she can take a flight), "chrrr" (it's basically an interjection for snoring and she says it, when she's going to sleep🥹), "pojď [potch]" (it means come and she says it whenever we take her out of the cage) and then just some random sounds.❤

I have 2 African Greys who borh have large repertoire of words. A few if the funny things thety say is - My female will say "Your a nut case" when she sees my husband as I used to say it everytime he came in that area. She talks complete sentences and says "Whatcha doing" then when you tell her she will respond back with something. My male says "Want a cold beer? " then makes the nouse of a beer can psssst (being opened) He whistles a variety of tunes and asks for different food items like "Want some popcorn " or "Want some grapes" ect..
