It’s a great museum, though it was 2002 when I was there. The original Kansas state capitol building is there, and my favorite was the monument to the 1.5M horses and mules killed during the Civil War

My Uncle Sgt Roy J Parsons was stationed here back in the 1960s. He was trained as a Surveyor while there. In later years I was going through Kansas on a trip to Utah. I stopped at Fort Riley and saw the massive Atomic Cannon up on the hill. That thing is amazing to see. By the way my former wifes Great Grandad was the last Soldier to put shoes on Comanche before he went to the Little Big Horn.

Amazing Stuff. I am from The UK But The US Calvary has always been interesting to me especially the period leading up to and including the Indian Wars.

To me it seems like a transition period of a brutal time period into a more modern era. 1850 -1900 is not really a time I’d like to have lived in.

@@TeachaMantoFish I agree my friend. Life in The Cavalry must have been very hard at that time. Many thanks.

@@TeachaMantoFish A couple. One night we were at the old MP station off Custer Ave. It was moved from the old building to the building right next to it closer to Custer Ave. The person I was working with that night and I decided to go tour the old building because it was one of those rare uneventful nights. Ended up in the old front desk just basically bs'ing looking out the glass toward the front door closer to the parade field. We were talking when we both just kind of quieted down because we heard someone walking slowly down the main balcony staircase directly in front of that main door. Just waiting for this person to show up and ask them why they were there. No one really showed up but we can still hear the foot steps coming down the stairs. So we decided to go look around and see if anyone was still in the building. No one was. Needless to say we never went back into that building again and never told anyone about it.

Do they acknowledge that Ft. Riley may have been the origin of the1918 flu pandemic? My grandfather and his brother were sent from there to England in WWI. They came down with the flu on the ship over, and missed the war.

An ignoble history, from the skewed perspective of the conquerors, of violence, murder, and genocide.
