Yes all the time. Matt Gaetz when he took minors over state borders, the headlines read "young women," when in fact they were underage girls. This is not about debating semantics because most of us know better than to comparing a child to an "adult" in any form is despicable and we know it is to lighten the harshness of the crime in favor of the perpetrator. A 12 year old isn't a child, it's early adolescence. Childhood ends when puberty begins which these days is 11, sometimes 10. There's a reason common law age of consent was between 10 to 12 (depending on U.S. state) up until 1880.

Mary Kay Letourneau was NOT a love story!! She groomed that child at age 12, got pregnant (twice) had him home caring for their babies while she was in prison, still sneaking love letters to him. He never had a chance. He was manipulated his entire adolescence. He never even got a choice in the matter. Once he was in his thirties, he divorced her. As far as social media goes, I'm not sure, but I don't want to place blame on the parents. Kids are more and more clever with technology these days.
