As a secondary school student in America, I have to say that this may be one of the more curious things I've stumbled upon while browsing the Internet. For someone who doesn't speak English as their native language, you are remarkably good at expressing yourself with just the right word, and I find that people like that usually have ideas that inspire and make me think the most. Gladly subscribing.

I've just come across your videos via a Dr Who thread. Love them. I found it interesting when you talked about getting intrigued by too many ideas to fit into your teaching and therefore having to have an outlet for them elsewhere. I had the same problem when I was a teacher, only it got to the stage where i enjoyed all the stuff I wasn't getting paid for more than the stuff I was so ended up leaving teaching! Heres hoping you can keep all your 'balls in the air'/'plates spinning'/Cats herded!

I would have loved to have an English teacher like you! I didn't really like English classes when I was in school. I don't want to only blame my teachers, I wasn't super motivated either, but they never managed to be as interesting and enthusiastic as you are. I'm happy I found your videos :D Ps: I'm a perfectionist and I care about environment too haha. It also creates big debates in my head. YAY!

Hi, Astrid. Your videos are definitely not banaaaaal I'm a professor at a university and I use Perfectionist for teaching Ancient Greek and Creative for teaching giant classes of Roman History. Don't let anyone keep Creative away from the classroom! (BTW I'll have to try the pom-poms). The Tardis episode is a classic.

All teachers have their own way - but I wouldn't be so dismissive of using social media in your classes. I've done that in some of my classes and it was brilliant. My workload was decreased, information was more easily available to the students, student-teacher interaction immediately became more "natural" (less forced / restrained). I am thinking about using KZbin actively in my classes at some point, with a view to "flipping" the classroom (look it up if you don't know what I'm on about).

@bobpeters61 Why thanks!! My next video is going to all about that subject, but... yes, it did. Since I've learned (British) English at school, my accent had deterioated over the years to something unidentifiable, rather American(ish) I was quite ashamed of. So before I started vlogging, I started practising a lot (in fact, the vlog is me, still practising) to get my British accent back, mostly by watching lots of British youtubers. So, yes. I'm very flattered it seems to work (I wasn't sure).

@Zeroviron No, I don't. I'm actually hiding this from mine. (Well aware that eventually, they'll find out.) But none of my pupils currently knows I'm doing this and I would like to keep it like that. Now whilst I wouldn't really mind them finding out, because I am proud of what I do and I don't think I'm compromising myself, I think the person I am in school should be enough. They need a good teacher, not a good youtuber. But, you know... chances are the secret will be out one day.

(At the risk of offending various nationalities) I suspect that if you tease out all the various strands of your subselves you may also find a 'German', 'English', 'French', and 'Italian' subself. (We would like to see them manifesting their individuality on KZbin too! Hint, hint!)

For the English people that are confused by majuscule, it means upper-case. I'm guessing that Astrid's knowledge of french, (they use the word majuscule to mean upper case) lead her astray, (and now her perfectionist has more fodder ;-)

You need to learn English? In the first video I watched on this channel (about "Forever Yours" by Alex Day), I honestly thought you were English, because your pronunciation is excellent. (OK, if you mean "I need to expand my English vocabulary", I suppose that may be true, since I don't know how much you work on each video, and how easy or difficult it is for you to find the right words.)

Did your learning of English rely heavily on imitating native speakers? The reason I asked is that your accent, at least when speaking English, sounds like a more refined sort of English accent rather than a German accent. I was surprised to hear that you were German for that reason.
@Bill_CBR10 жыл бұрын
What... you don't speak English ? Wait a minute here, did I miss something? I guess I'll just have to watch them all to figure it all out.
