As a son of a soldier, a soldier and combat veteran, and the father of a soldier I found much truth in this story. Families don’t get medals or awards. Sometimes they get physically or mentally broken loved ones returned. Sometimes worse. The stress of having a family member in a combat zone is like nothing else. The not knowing. Police officer’s spouses can come closest to that feeling. Most cops are not gone from home for months or years at a time. Families are waiting for the bad news of death or wounds, or for their loved ones to come home and be with them. Never knowing until the news arrives which it will be. Sometimes multiple times over the course of service.

Arguably, teachers are more liable for wars than the military. The reasoning is that the teachers teach the politicians that usually start the wars that the military has to fight and clean up.

I really enjoy hearing these stories as it gives you different perspectives and different points of views. I have never been in the military but I still respect the people who serve and the families who are waiting for them.

Three points: It is immoral to hire someone to risk their life to protect you if you are not willing to protect yourself. The intrinsic difference between a slave and a free man is that a slave doesn’t see death as an option. When things go BAD if you don’t have something to die for, you won’t have anything to live for. I find it very interesting, that those who mock the Armed Forces didn't have the testicular fortitude to wear the uniform of the services or of thos who wear the uniforms of First Responders. Or, as Col. Warren said, didn't have the selflessness to serve in the so many other areas that require some form of self-sacrifice.
