The whole "assuming kids have parents" thing is why most of the teachers at my school just went with, "Do I have to call someone?" any time someone acted up too much.
@Pizza_Party3 жыл бұрын
What worries me about calling the parents is that there are a lot of abusive parents. In middle school we had a girl whose parents would legitimately beat her whenever any teacher called to complain or if they were unhappy after teacher-parent meetings. It was horrific, but it wasn't seen as 'abusive enough' so no one did anything. That's the only reason i'm against teachers calling parents, but in a perfect world that wouldn't be a problem

Our class once made a fieldtrip. We were visiting a city, and when it ended we all got back in the bus. The teacher asked: "Does anyone miss their neighbour?" and everyone said no. About 2 hours later the teachers saw, that one of the students was missing, and they shouted at his neighbour:"WHY DIDN´T YOU SAY SOMETHING WHEN WE ASKED?" He said: "Well, he is an asshole, and you asked if I MISS him, soo..."

"Stop culturally appropriating".. what? I mean, most of our holidays are borrowed from other cultures, and if those other cultures don't care about how we celebrates these things, why should we stop? Why are you telling people not to celebrate something that's fun to celebrate and doesn't hurt anybody?

One of my friends used to always get in trouble, to the point some of the teachers wouldn't let him in their class at all (science, home ec, and one of our english classes (we had 3 english classes btw though more specifically, regular english, movie reviews, and history, but only every 3rd/5th class the rest of the time it was just "creative" writing)) So the best story was the time he was in the library at lunch time, throwing paper airplanes around, so one of the english teachers who had just been spending time in the library (not one of our teachers, she taught year 11 and 12) was absolutely furious and she told him to clean the entire library, and that he couldn't leave until he finished and to report to the librarian when he's finished. So he picked up each paper airplanes put them in the bin, then told everyone (except me and few of his other friends) to leave the library, and then he picked up each chair in the library (2 at a time, most were just plastic chairs) there would've been about 40, put them all outside, then went to the librarian and said "I took out all the trash and removed all the hazards in the library, librarian was so pissed she just told him to leave and he was banned for the rest of the week, bell went off 5 minutes after that, on a friday, he was only banned from the library for 5 minutes.

I was too much of a well-disciplined angel to really be a smart ass in school, but there was one completely unintentional moment that's up there with the other literal-minded stuff. On a literature knowledge test (basic "did you read the book" stuff), one question was along the lines of "How did character X end his life?" I was too tired to understand they wanted the specifics of what happened, so I blinked, thought "stupid question" and wrote "He died!". With the exclamation point, even, to express my exasperation at the question. Amazingly, IIRC I actually got the point for that question. :D The other accidental time (and not even smart ass, just weird) was when I came to a math test after being sick for some time and knew almost everything except for one simple formula, that being how to calculate the area of a triangle. For some reason, I didn't find out that was going to be a thing up until the actual test. Not deterred, I derived the formula right there, with full explanation and everything... which probably seemed _really bizarre_ from the teacher's POV, considering it was a simple formula in an easy 1-point question... she didn't make any comments, but I can imagine the "OK, it's all correct, but why?" moment.

Kinda surprised on your view of early childhood education, fellow kindergarten teacher here! We do babysit, because of the age that child's are it is part of the job, but it is also a very important field, and we do teach physics, history, democracy, and many other matters (at least here in Chile it is par of the national curriculum)! Maybe we won't be solving like string theory on a kinder, but we do smaller stuff that follows the same mind process so they can learn to solve stuff, to crate, to formulate hipótesis, and try them out and see if they are right or not.

@@TeacherEddieHistory I see! Must be a lenguaje difference, here preschool is the way we call all the levels of education from 0 to 6 years! I still stand by my point tho, we have different names the "jardines infantiles" (preschool) Wich have educational proposes and "guarderías" (daycare) Wich are only for babysitting, even tho with babies is way more difficult to really teach stuff, is more about letting them get different experiences with educational propouses, from around age 1 I would say that the more teacher like work begins, and as soon as they start speaking, or letting you know what they think one way or another, the game is on! Hahaha, the question begins and the lessons become more and more challenging

When I was a sophomore, I had the worst English teacher the first semester. Literally, all we did was copy a handful of definitions on the whiteboard and socialized for the rest of the class. Every class period I had her, there ended up being a fist fight break out! Once, a guy was asking if he could use the restroom and the teacher refused. She ended up going out into the hallway to speak with another student and while she was gone, the guy got up and urinated in her iced tea. She was a chain smoker, which meant she didn't have a sense of smell or taste, so she didn't notice anything was wrong! Another student went into the garbage can once. And there were often students in the back of the classroom smoking weed! She was fired after the semester and then we got the best teacher afterwards.

I once had this math class that was way below my level and my teacher the 1st semester was like doe whatever you want as long as tou get the grades. I got a 9 out of 10 in 15 minutes in a test we got 50 minutes to complete every time. My response i used to watch netflix the entire class. 2nd semester a new teacher, i was netflixing and she said: 'do some work or get out' i got tf out. Luckely we had a certain amount of allowed skipping hours and it was just the same amount of the math class. The teacher never saw me the entire semester i got my 9s and my class had to listen to the teacher complain about me constantly. Still one of my fave college story's

Oh, that wife in Highschool thing. Some students may have just have immigrated to the country, and my Highschool had this one program for Teaching them English while also keeping them on track, once they start learning, they get integrated into normal classes. Well, I had these 4 girlsin my class, and the Algebra Teacher put me in charge of them. Cuz I got my stuff done quickly and was the only fluent spanish speaker and translator. Well, through the school year I started learning about them. Some of them worked full time jobs, and actually missed school for them. Cuz some actually crossed the border by themselves and had to fend for themselves. I did end up close and bribing company for status for letting them just copy off my work. It wasn't until their graduation that I figured out one of them had a husband

there's this Math teacher in high school 2nd year (lets call him Mr. Ohm), in my high school , the classes are separated by grades. So the top 3 of each class in 1st year will be gathered in 1 class on the 2nd year, and it was class 2-2. One day, Mr. Ohm wrote a set of Math questions on the blackboard and then 1 student (top of that class) raised his hand as said "sir, you wrote them all wrong." then proceed to explain why and changed all the numbers in the questions so it is workable. a week later, Mr. Ohm resigned. later, we learned that Mr.Ohm is originally an elementary school teacher, who got a job in my school (a high school) through his connection with our school's headmaster. So... yeah, he's not good enough to teach a high school students.

Personally, I see preschool as a transitional phase hence the “pre” part. You might not be getting into academics but the whole thing functions like a low-level elementary school. Also, I would call preschool teachers to some degree, they might not teach common core but they teach kids ow to be a functional human being. It’s why (most) kindergartners don’t bite people.
