You can end the essay not choosing one option over the other if you can justify it in your text...no problem. :)

Hello, Phill! Thanks a bunch for your thorough explanation of writing an essay. I have a question though. Is it possible (fine) to use contracted forms in an essay as you did in the conlcusion. You wrote "shouldn't" but i was taught some time ago that it is not allowed to use short forms. Is it true?

In general, contractions (I'm, don't , etc.) are more informal than the separated form (I am, do not, etc.), but if you forget that once or twice in your essay and use contractions, there won't be any problem. Just don't use them all the time as an essay is typically meant to be a formal piece of writing. In addition, try avoiding phrasal verbs and colloquial expressions because they are features of informal language as well. You can find language like that in news articles or opinion pieces in newspapers or magazines. Have a look at online newspapers from the UK or the US and you should be able to find some of these expressions in action.

Yes, absolutely. What your opinion is doesn't really matter. What matters, however, is how you say it. So, if you think that the two options are similarly valuable, you can definitely write that.

Good question, but rest assured, Cambridge hasn't changed anything since 2015.

In C1 Advanced, all the writing tasks have a word limit of 220-260.
