I get it - sometimes it’s hard to not lose it after dealing with the same kids day after day. But once a teacher starts yelling, they’ve lost control and the kids know it. And once they know the adult in the room has lost control they will continue to push it and push it and push it. Never let them see you lose it.

As a teacher myself, if you lose your cool its over. The last thing students want is to be shouted at and preached to. (it will only serve to make you, the teacher, the butt end of many jokes and you won't live down that reputation easily.) It will get you nowhere as a teacher. Fear and intimidation never works, they're not motivators. You need to be able to read the room and relate to the students feelings on that particular day. Some days are different than others. They're not robots, they're humans.

I completely agree. As a teacher, I'd be lying if I said I've never lost my temper because I definitely have. Losing your temper on the students makes you feel awful. It makes the students feel awful. If they don't feel awful, they will just see you as a crazy person who is meant to be treated like a joke. It doesn't help anything. Especially in the 1st year, it takes a while to figure this out. I'm about to start my second year. My goal is to do way better with classroom management and effective instruction.

Boot camp is their next venture before they even think about graduating. Back in the 1970's, when I was little, my private school teachers were the queens of corporal punishment. Although I was rarely spanked or paddled, other students were paddled more often than I was. For a teacher to spank or paddle a student, the angrier the teacher is, the harder or more often he or she does it to set kids straight disciplinarily.

On the other hand, I get having to deal with kids for 8 hours each day. Then having the stay longer to prepare shit. It’s irritating on both ends and I think if teachers tried to create a culture where, “we have to be here all damn day… let’s work together to get through the day” I think it would be better.
