What a great way to do a KZbin lesson, to show you teaching someone else how to play a song. The expected hesitancy from the novice student but showing how she quickly gets the idea, makes the process so real and I would expect, very encouraging for other novices looking at it.
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I wanted to show. Every lesson I’ve taught on here moved fast and seamlessly; whilst that is good content for you to watch it’s not the reality of practicing an instrument or part of a song. Each part takes a minute to understand, five minutes to build a bit of fluency, an hour more to memorise etc. Hopefully this video gives beginners a positive reality check and boosts their confidence like you said. 🙌🏻

Loved this lesson. What it meant for me was the reminder of where I started. But it also showed me that every beginner has difficulty even when the guitar orientation fits the player. See, I’m a lefty, who has always played right handed guitars. My thought process is, well, I’ve got to use both hands anyway so what does it matter in the end. For fun I tried to play a left handed guitar, and my brain just couldn’t wrap around it. So my thinking is anyone could learn the guitar regardless of orientation. It’s just a matter of practice and determination. I’d love to see more lessons with Gab, she’s just lovely. 👍😁

I love this style of video, great for beginners to feel like you’re not going to fast and fun for more experienced players to get insight on teaching. All around awesome video. I’m not sure how open you’d be to the idea, but as a huge zep fan, I love seeing the younger generation feel inspired to play similar music from a newer band that has some very apparent zep influence, and that’s Greta Van fleet. I would love to see you break down a song or two of theirs, I’m personally a fan, but I just think it’d be awesome to see, considering the sparse amount of tutorials for their material on KZbin. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’ve earned a sub. Cheers

I've been trying to play guitar for years and I find it %$#! difficult but I really dig your videos because not only are you an excellent guitarist, you play the songs (In the way I consider) right! This is a great video. I always tried to do the finger-picking method with this song but ultimately gave up because I couldn't do it consistently correct (Wrong finger on wrong string...). I play it better with the pick but the method that you taught the lovely lady here is brilliant! I will have to just do like you said: Play the first bit over and over until it becomes normal, then move on. Great video. I always look forward to your tutorials because I know you're going to play and teach the material the right way (I know, that is subjective but to me, when you teach a song exactly how the original person did it, that is the right way). Thanks for posting this one. Cheers! 🤘
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve mentioned this before; I equate it to studying Shakespeare, the original text. You don’t skim read and miss bits out when you study English so why do the same with music? Learn it as close to that artist as you can and then you take the most away from them in terms of skill and inspiration. 🙌🏻

Nice way to present a lesson. Having a student right there who’s learning a song like the rest of us novices, helps the timing to be more like a real lesson for people on a similar level who are also just learning some of the chords. Nevertheless, clearly the two of you ‘can make beautiful music together.’ 😊😊

Good first lesson, not an easy tune to nail while learning to pick the strings, keep going we've all been there.
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is a tricky one for sure. I reckon Gab will nail it though. Caught her practicing later last night, already better. 🤩

@@SpedSpedding Ah she's got the bug, a tip, practice playing arpeggios with just the open strings, EAD with the thumb and index middle and ring finger on the trebles for 15 minutes a day, it will help with her finger picking. I played classical guitar for many years, just a thought.
@pedalhawk72 жыл бұрын
Thoughts on using all 4 fingers and thumb to pick instead of string skipping with the thumb? Bad habit? Viable?
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
Ouh, I’ve never used the pinky at all for finger picking. But that’s just me. I’d say MOST of the time it’s not used but you could definitely train it up to be useful. You do you! 🙌🏻

Dude you should do a guitar collection video
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
I may do that at some point. Not a huge collector to be honest. Spent my early years touring so much and never had a penny to spend on stuff. I’m still building. I honestly believe I still haven’t found the one; my favourite guitar yet. 🔥

@Sped what was the finger style song that she was playing when you started solo overing?

Emily Barker - Nostalgia. Was a teaching request years ago and have kept it as a finger picking lesson. Beautiful song.

Way to go Sped! I traveled far to see my favorite band ever on May 30, 1977. Landover, MD. Music in the 70s is the best! Led Zeppelin, Who, Floyd, and today there is nothing. The 50s had some good stuff, but then you need to go back to Bach and Beethoven for respectable writing

Glad you enjoyed it! I read that as you travelled to see them in a Landrover at first! 🤣 Planty would have liked that, I hear he's got a few!

@@SpedSpedding I knew it was my only chance. We had tickets for Buffalo soon after and the tragedy happened to Robert. I did see them later. Stevie Ray Vaughan opened for Robert , Now And Zen, and then saw the Firm. I wonder what it would have been if Jimmy teamed with Ian Gillian? Your girl is doing great! PS, I love your Les Paul.

If there was no camera. Would there have been some shouting and grabbing of fingers and placing them in the correct position?
