I got my Aussie at six weeks(sellers wanted it that way).....by 8 wks old, she could sit, lay, give me her pa. whennshe was older, I taught her to fetch my slippers....she locked it in in 15 minutes and through the years, when I git a new pair of slippers, I just showed her the new ones, and that was it....she got that those shoes were now the “slippers”......she was amazing.....so sweet, so intelligent, so totally devoted, good with all people and animals. I had the perfect dog for 13 1/2 yrs......definitely my BEST friend

Update: I ended up finding the perfect Aussie for me. He just so happens to be half Lab. His name is Mako, he’s around 7 months and loves nothing more than to play in the water. 💦 🐾

My husband and I are about to get a Aussi puppy and I'm so glad I found this video. We are also in agreement about the crate/bed thing. Our other dog sees his crate as a safe space and the door is always open. If we need him to go inside we say "den" or "get in your den" (happy voice tone). At night, he usually rotates between the crate, bed, and floor. I'm concerned about this last fact slightly because we're not sure how it will influence the pup right off the bat. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. :)

Thank you so much for this video! I'll be bringing home my red tri Aussie girl, on April 10th, when she's 8 weeks old. I am both SO excited and nervous. Seeing you demonstrate how to teach these important tricks, totally relieved some of my stress. I feel that I'm overthinking things and making myself anxious. Lol. GREAT VIDEO. Im getting a miniature american shepherd puppy in a week and wanted to refresh my dog training skills, as its been 13 years since my last puppy. M&J you made a great tutorial for puppy training. I was not expecting you (you seem so young because I am so old) to be so knowlegdable, insightful and professional. Your training tips where all great! With the command SIT i always just pushed my dogs bum down - I love your technique of push your dog back with the treat.

A good thing i have learned is to only give them treats to get the basics down*! After substitute it for something they love like throwing a ball! That way they don’t get dependent on treats but they know they have done good*!

Yes, awarding with praise and toys aswell and not just treats. So they dont expect a treat everytime

Did she bite a lot or does she bite a lot? Cuz I have a 16 week Aussie and he LOVES biting me and my girlfriend, I’ve praised him for not doing it and I give him toys literally EVERYTHING to get him not to bite us but he still does. I’ve even tried some small things for when he’s bad like a spray bottle when he bites us (honestly just the bottle scares him enough we don’t usually spray him with it 😂) but we also put him in time out when he bites a lot and that helps for a little bit but he still continues after like 10 minutes of being let out

it is very wrong to keep a tail on an aussie I have a 9 month old red merle and her tail is docked and she looks great and Aussies can get problems if they keep their tails and it kinda looks funny
@gemuhcrayford13214 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely, and the tails are uneven! Different Aussies have different tail lengths, so it's necessary to dock them so they fit breed standard. Fitting the standard is extremely important and any breeder who doesn't (or breeds mixes) is it extremely irresponsible
@thatguydude4194 жыл бұрын
kaylee d I feel like if they naturally have a tail, you should let them keep it unless they are for herding. Just my opinion, though.
@gemuhcrayford13214 жыл бұрын
@@thatguydude419 All Aussies have different length tails, so they usually crop them to fit breed standard and stay more consistent which is the best option. Plus they look cute with their wiggly nubs haha
@marian85514 жыл бұрын
@@thatguydude419 I think they can step on their tails big ouchy
@z3me14 жыл бұрын
It is very wrong to keep a tail on an aussie? LOL WOT? Its proven docking they tails don't have any advantages by the contrary they tails help in the cold as in the hot days, only when they meant for hurding it makes sense docking but I don't think you a sheepherder, if you have it as a house pet its not necessary to dock. I have one aussie with a magestic black and white tail, and sorry it looks funny hahah?? it looks beutifull, almost like a fluffy fox tail, its gorgeous! For me the docked ones are the ones that look funny, def not as beutifull when they have a tail. And no they wont step on their tails, its not that big on the other hand I have ocasionally step on it in the past haha nowadays I just know better because she lays always on my feet everywhere all the time even in the WC and sometimes I used to forgot about her lol
