Autism At Home is a non-profit initiative by The Hope Project, the non-profit arm of Early Autism Project (EAP) Malaysia. Autism At Home is an online resource platform aimed at providing simplified tips and strategies to help families of children with autism teach and support their children at home. This platform will provide you with online training videos on effective ABA teaching strategies for autism, featuring role plays, pop quizzes, and home assignments.
* This online resource platform is not intended to be a certified Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) course nor is anyone who has completed the training videos here equipped to become an ABA therapist or any other therapist. Viewers of the material on this resource platform are not equipped to train others nor supervise any ABA programmes. Furthermore, the strategies outlined on the website will not be sufficient for a complete ABA programme and we at Early Autism Project Malaysia strongly encourage families to seek qualified ABA treatment from supervised professionals.

Hello, thank you for sharing. We would recommend to teach him what he can and cannot touch as they are dangerous. This can be done through social stories or visuals. At the same time, we would also recommend to find an appropriate replacement behavior that your son can be engaged in such as spinning fidget spinners or playing with toy cars where it is safer for him to touch. Preventatively, when he is about to come across parked cars on the road or when he has to walk outside, it would be recommended to keep his hands occupied with these replacement items and reinforce his behavior of having nice hands with the cars. We hope that this is helpful and do feel free to watch the rest of our series on KZbin for more strategies that may be helpful. Thank you.

Hello, thank you for reaching out! We would encourage to break the skill of going to school down and tightening the reinforcement schedule (eg: reinforce more frequently). Preventatively, we would also encourage to prepare visuals such as social stories and schedule boards to communicate what will be going on in school. Reinforcements can be given in school when he completes each task and it can be slowly faded off. We also encourage to find out from the school on what he may find challenging and if possible for the school to adopt the reinforcement schedule. Motivation at school would be key as well in helping him be more successful at school. We hope that this is helpful and if you have further enquiries, do reach out to us at enquiries@autismmalaysia.com and our team will get in touch with you. Have a great day!
