Join pediatric speech-language pathologist Laura Mize, M.S., CCC-SLP of teachmetotalk.com for this podcast, ASHA CEU Course #0403 Teach Social Games First for CE credit for therapists. In this course, you’ll learn what to work on first with a young child with autism.... participating in fun social games with you! But where do you start? There are five evidence-based reasons for introducing social games to very young children with autism and five questions for determining which kinds of social games to introduce first to ensure early success. When we introduce social games, we treat one of the core issues we see in kids with autism... difficulty consistently interacting with other people. We'll use a child's sensory information to select which kinds of social games will be most successful first. Don't worry if you're not sure what I mean - I explain it in the show! Get the pdf handout mentioned in this show only with purchase of CE credit for only $5 at teachmetotalk.com at this link: teachmetotalk.... The handout lists the questions you need to ask to determine which kinds of social games to introduce first. This information is from my treatment manual The Autism Workbook specifically designed to help parents and professionals develop a therapy plan for a toddler or preschooler with red flags for autism. (The list of games is included in that book!) Treating a kid with signs of autism (mainly speech-language delay!) can be so hard! Don't try to do this alone! Let me help you! Here's the link: teachmetotalk.... For step by step instructions for introducing social games, I have two excellent resources for you. The first one is the book I mentioned during the show - The Autism Workbook: Developing Speech Therapy Treatment Plans for Toddlers and Preschoolers with Red Flags for ASD at this link: teachmetotalk..... The next one is Teach Me to Play WITH You and is recommended as the first resource for parents on many autism parenting boards. Get it only at teachmetotalk.com at this link: teachmetotalk.....

Thank you,I watched this show that you recomendet to me,because I have a child who is sensory seeker, and I just want to thank you for all the information. Some of the things that you sead I already do with my child. I have good example for the game for a child who realy likes jumping on the bed. I jump a little bit with him and say:,,hop, hop", and when I have his attention, I say: ,,hop, hop tach your nose" and then I do the same for all body parts. I wrote this example because I know that your Show watchs a lots of parents and maybe its a good example for them. I can't waith for your Show about sensory seekers. Thank you for all your help trought your shows. All the best❤

Yes, kids can be hypo or hyper for different senses, even the same senses and this can change at different parts of the day. Their sensory profile can also change as they grow.

So I think my child is hypersensitive enough to the point that they are having trouble between autism vs adhd with sensory issues. His speech therapist x2 says they dont think he has autism. So...if a child is crying and they start crying too is that being hypersensitive...hes not going to thats child and comforting them but he just cries
