We know the danger of escapism. We know the pain of being around a fair weather friend. We feel the frustration of spiritual bypassing. Many of us have a fairly good grasp at this point about the fact that running away from pain and from things that scare us is not the way to create a fulfilling life. But we need to be aware that there is danger at the other side of the scale as well. There is danger in becoming attached to pain, unwilling to leave it. Teal has named this danger “Endurism”. Endurism is equally as unhealthy as escapism. It is a coping strategy.

I've NEVER believed in Endurism and have always been accused of "running from my problems". Yeah, I grew and left my abusers behind. Sometimes leaving or "running away", really is the answer.

I grew up partly in Japan, and there's a term called "toukou-kyohi" which describes kids who refuse to go to school because of bullying, mental health issues, etc (formal education is compulsory until 9th grade/year 9). I used to blame them for "escaping" from their own problems. After watching this video, I am applauding these brave kids who commit toukou-kyohi. I've realized that they are simply not willing to endure the pain and suffering just to fulfill societal obligations. I know someone who committed toukou-kyohi, and he ended up receiving some alternate form of education (e.g. home schooling is unheard of in Japan). Thanks, Teal.

Hi. Just wanted to say that I also committed toukou-kyohi, and your comment was incredibly healing for me. Everyone in my life has shamed me for my inability to face school and I've been seen as weak, over-sensitive, crazy, etc. I know myself that the school system is not supportive of the mental health and happiness of children, and I think I may spend some of my lifetime trying to change that. Your comment means a lot to me :)

+A. Pershon To give a different perspective. It isn't your "inability to face school" it was your unwillingness to tolerate a bad situation that made you drop school. Puts a little different spin on it, huh?

Oh, the great truths inside this nugget of a video are so powerful! How many times have I said, "it is what it is!" to rationalize the enduring pain of my almost 3 decades of a marriage that I have literally chosen to be stuck in for the sake of the children. It is actually quite disgusting what message I have been sending to our 5 kids. We have finally put the breaks on and we are in the process of getting that divorce that should have happens years and years ago!Thank you, Teal, and thank you Universe for getting this message sent to my inbox this morning! So powerful! I watched it with my 17-year-old daughter that has watched me try to be this spiritual martyr for all of her life. Finally, finally, I have put the brakes on this unhealthy union and said: "Enough is enough!!"

This is probably one of my FAVORITE Teal Swan videos. It's SO TRUE! And I love the passion she shows us here. I feel the exact same way. You GOTTA find a way out of those bad situations. I know it can be scary at first but just DO it! It gets easier. That's one of the best lessons my mother taught me. The saying "you made your bed now you gotta lie in it" was NOT perpetuated in our household for an instant.

One of the most important videos of her. Recently I have realized that I endure things in my life, I even build dreams for my future that contain enduring. It is hard to change the belief systems we have but I believe we have the power to change them, step by step, by doing the things that feels right.

Teal Swan made me use the word endurism when I was living with a mentally abusive parent! I was so used to taking discomfort and pain that I just one day left! Just two weeks ago I used the word ENDURISM to explain my addiction to pain, abuse, and a$$holes! Now, I realized that I was just used to being in emotional pain.

We also get addicted to sadness peptides that keep us stuck in nowhereville. Your boat analogy is so incredible. I recently let go of something I was hanging on to for far too long. The minute I really took action to get rid of this thing, and let it go, I noticed so many great new things started to happen. Thank you!

Honestly, this is so true. I hated myself when I was a child, and i cut and self-harmed constantly. When I was diagnosed with diabetes at 16, I turned into an amazingly strong, confident, and brave individual who refused to cause themselves any more pain than they deserved. It was the only push I needed, and it's real proof that the chronic illness clause is valid. ~blessed be

I whole heartedly understand this through a personal experience. I distinctly remember seeing a kipup in a video game. I asked my mother if that was possible in real life. She has been morbidly obese my entire life, causing my childhood self to believe it was normal to be so. She told me that's only possible in video games and don't get so hopeful. Now, my kipup is almost perfect as I teach parkour professionally to children. I'm watching her speak this Limitation on my younger brother, while preaching that my weight loss journey isn't possible for him. My heart breaks for him, but I try to help any way I can.

What an unbelievable human being Teal Swan is....For her to have this much depth, this much insight, is absolutely a gift to this world...recently I was noticing the same mixed messages in society about enduring pain and suffering, that will eventually lead to 'success' and then the opposite message, be happy, take this 'pill' and stop suffering....if you watch the current commercials, this mixed message is going on all the time...something I've been noticing and laughing at, regarding the ridiculous of that mixed message...and here Teal reveals this mixed message, exactly how I was noticing it....the synchronicity is absolutely amazing.....I must be aligning with the harmony and the peace within more and more, in noticing the things going on around me that don't resonate with me anymore...I no longer believe that 'temporary suffering' will pay off somehow, for that temporary suffering usually leads to the enduring Teal mentions....I now have recognized that shift within, that knowing in regards to temporary suffering, knowing that it is really code for Teals word....endure-ism. I'm no longer willing to endure, my heart, mind, body, are all in sync, in alignment, in agreement with that, and now there is nothing but allowing the heart lead to the joy that is, to the joy the heart really desires...

This video recently showed up on my suggested. I think because of Teals recently released year ahead video… this resonates so hard. I recently did a tarot reading for myself about my relationship and one of the cards was 8 of swords which essentially is this exact energy. Pisces is also my dominant energy which also has a tendency victimization/martyrdom 🥲 Thank you for bringing this concept to my awareness so that I may heal through it!

I love your philosophy and teachings swan, for a very longtime my creativity, spirit and natural tendency to freedom, has been strategically broken, at first it started with my teachers telling me not to put my hands in my pocket when talking to them, my bible telling me that good people are hated and derided for saying the truth and thus i could never be truly happy if i said the truth, my friends looking down on me because i was the youngest in the class, and in the university my "friends" bringing me down when i told them of my business idea, my startup failing my grades dropping, dropping out of school and now having to start over again, now everything i do i doubt myself, i endure my condition because i have limited ego, and with every failure i encounter when trying to change, it drops further and further so im afraid of change because i dont want to let go of what little self beleive i have, i question everything i do, every choice i make i always think was i right, should i or should i not, am i being a silly boy again, and when i look at my current state now and all the events that happened in the past i think well everybody has challenges and gets over them, so im just being a weakling. its just.... but your video has hit a spot in my head, i just need a way to access my childish freedom and daringness which ive lost over the years

I am utterly dumbfounded by your power. Now I know I am very wise, and very powerful because I can love so hard and so easily and so possessiveless and I have put myself or got myself into so many varied puzzles, pitfalls, etc. So I know the kind of dedication one must have to truly fully loving numerous different walks of life and being that person as yourself so fully that it takes in order to be able to relate to such a wide array of people on a level that is undoubtably genuine. So when I hear video after video that you have been able to pump this stuff out, it boggles my mind as to what kind of life you have lived and what else I could try to make me more relatable in a universal genuineness. Your the best. You are a perfect sweetheart, you probably could be a killler, too. I think, though, that this video answered the comment i had written on another of your videos probably less than an hour ago. I see you, and I would love to learn so much more from you.

I finally have a word for it "endurism".... I experienced this all of my childhood and now it showcases in my adult life. I sometimes feel like I have no idea how to feel joy. As a child I had no choice on who I lived with, parents divorced at 3 and my sister & I were shuffled back and forth. Along with my Mom having really poor husbands #2 and #3. I defiantly do not blame my parents, deeply love them and understand they were doing the best they could with their own internal issues. Now I just ask myself "How can I heal and stop enduring so much pain in my relationships? Also, how can I stop creating suffering in my relationships?"

i really enjoyed watching this because of you, your teal-zhuzh. the realization or the noticing of this video in my life is utterly painful, i notice moments where i revert to feelings of not knowing where to start (and yet, maybe that is where i begin with it all) ..i have been doing this to my own self, that little part of me, and not truly knowing it (enduring, even escaping). but, on the other side of that coin...there is an opportunity to build upon the change that has been waiting for me to notice (since having watched this video). i have been feeling more eagerness and excitement these days (in life in general, i have been choosing to take my own personal actions towards choosing myself, over, and over, again, and again), a lot less despair and feelings of dread (which is simply words like relief and refreshing, knowing how far in the depths of darkness i have, seemingly, blindly trudged through). i see you more than i have ever seen you before. sincerely, thank you for you.

I will change others for having been changed by you, and through my own expansion I will effect the lives of my community .

Thank you! I just quit work April 15th because my sister, the president, was not welcoming and not making decisions based on betterment for the company but more for her ego. I wondered if it was escapism or not, but having the universe beside me, I know it was necessary. Thank you for more validation!

Thank you, for helping me understand further -and exercise compassion for- one of those "boat-patchers", whose endurism let the second boat pass him by. I can now continue peeling at my own layers, thank you for this and your many other helpful and timely videos. 💖💖💖

Super powerful message... I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I was definitely raised to be a coper and it speaks volumes as to how my life is now. This video was a much needed wake up call. Thank you Teal.

I literally opened Pandora’s Box last night. I have no recourse but to process all that pain and reconcile my traumas. I think I need to do this to reach enlightenment.

♡THANK YOU so very much! And as usual your timing and words are impeccable and in sync with exactly what I'm in needs of. Teal, you may not know this, but you are my new best friend!!! Your insight gives me more comfort and courage than anyone. Your words resonate powerfully and today I'm embracing my bliss and no longer second-guessing the cancellation of my engagement yesterday. I attempted to present remedies and solutions to no avail and made a decision that a drama-filled relationships will cause grief and pull me off of my mission and I could not choose to endure these limitations or this suffering for a lifetime. Yesterday I took my power back and implemented action as the antidote to despair. This is by far the hardest thing I've ever done and I miss him deeply. I hope he decides to rethink his decision to stay stuck in self-sabotage and inflicting painful behaviors, and instead decides to increase his vibration and kindness and catch up to me someday. Today (with puffy eyes) I am choosing to stand with courage while embracing my bliss and putting the gas on expansion. You are right, we came here to grow, improve and make a difference, and to love ourselves enough to say "NO" to enduring needless suffering. This is difficult day, but I am extremely grateful to be following my joy onto the new boat and not still back trying to plug up holes in the old one.♡

This is the fourth of four Noble Truths of Buddhism: It is the solution to end suffering caused by ignorance (not accepting and perceiving the world as it is) and desire ( of pleasure, immortality and material goods, which all cause an unquenchable thirst) the step in of the Noble Eightfold Path are Right Understanding, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration. Even more, there are three themes into which the Path is divided: good moral conduct (Understanding, Thought, Speech); meditation and mental development (Action, Livelihood, Effort), and wisdom or insight (Mindfulness and Concentration). Good luck my friend.
