Can confirm, La Chankla is a lethal weapon mastered by Latina mothers. Buddy is Puerto Rican, got sassy with his momma. She gave him /that/ look, the one where you know you done f-d up and should make right with God last week. He sprints off, and before my brain could even process what my eyes had witnessed she had whipped a 4" stiletto heeled shoe at him without even spilling a drop of her drink. It didn't matter that he was sprinting to the other end of the yard, that there were no less than a dozen family members between him and her... nope. BAM, that heel nailed him square between the shoulder blades, and he went ass over tea kettle and landed short of the gate. And that was my introduction to Latino cookouts.

Many of the things he says in his videos do not strike me as funny because its our normal dialect. but it is very funny to see others react to it. I was in Cincinnati on a bus and my best friend asked me If I was tired.. my response was the normal one for us but not the rest of the bus I am guessing. After I answered " I'm slap wore out" the people around us erupted into laughter.. it took us a minute to figure out what was going on.. I'm a French Canadian. I LOVE Mayonaise and I make my own most of the time... But I CLEARLY remember being looked at like I was some kind of extra-crispy thing, for asking for Mayonaise with my fries in South Carolina in the 80s. The owner actually gave me a bottle of Ketchup and LOOKED at me like he was daring me to ask for Mayo again... I used the ketchup... Have things changed that much, or did I pick the wrong place or food group to ask Mayonaise for? I'd REALLY like to know. It's been bothering me for DECADES!!! And like the guy says all the time. I don't want to insult anyone. I just want to know the way to go about it. If the USA is ever a place I visit again...
@jessicashenefield15463 жыл бұрын
@@TheJimprez I had a high school classmate, in southwest US, who was originally from the mitten portion of Michigan. She introduced me to mayo with fries and I enjoyed them thoroughly--until I overdid it and haven't been able to mayo a fry since the early 90s. I do like to dip cold chicken or turkey in mayo though! I surmise that you would get the same level of disdain in SC if you attempted it again. Each state has its own quirks, and even various locations within those states have individual quirks and judgements. Tho with the quantity of transplanting occurring these days it likely would depend on where exactly you were and who was serving you. I'm near an area of the southeast that I joke is New Long Island because it's been overrun by folks that have relocated from Long Island NY. Maybe on your next gastric adventure to the States you can approach it as "it's common where I grew up to use mayo as a fry dip, what's the common fry dip here" and request some of the local fave along with your mayo. Might soften up any judgemental servers as well as potentially introducing you to some interesting flavors or conversations. And the server might even explore mayo with their own fries. (It really is tasty, maybe I'll be able to enjoy them again someday.)

@SomeOnlinePerson3 жыл бұрын
I had a similar experience (with snow) growing up in Michigan and then moving to Oregon. It was at least kinda understandable living in southern Oregon where going anywhere involves mountain passes with just little guardrails between the freeway and a long drop combined with how snow tended to be infrequent (reducing experience) but pretty significant when it hit. I was also told that the snow out here is "greasier" and more slick than snow back in Michigan. Snow seems to be even more uncommon in northern Oregon, at least around my area; first snow usually doesn't happen until at least late December, sometimes January or even February, and it usually only snows a handful of times in a given winter. I have a personal rule against going out the first day that any snow manages to stick, because people drive freaking scary as they try to remember how. Compared to Michigan, where we'd check the news to see if we got enough fresh *feet* of snow for school to at least get a 2-hour delay.

As I'm laughing through this, I feel like I'm getting a real education at the same time! Flip flops as weapons? My great grandmother always had a spoon on whatever table was in front of her and when one of us kids would disobey her she could hit that spoon sending it flying across the room and I swear it had an onboard navigation system because it never missed her target and it stung! My alcoholic uncle lived with her and one day he walked in drunk when I was there. He came through the door like a bull due to being upset at losing in a poker game. "No you weren't" indeed, haha. I'm guessing the little red bottles are probably cayenne pepper sauce, or maybe tobasco, something like that? Yes, people put ketchup on fried fish, if they don't like tartar sauce. Well, in Ohio they do, I don't know about Mississippi. Only about one Ohioan in twenty will eat anything as potent as cayenne or tobasco. There *are* people up here who use cayenne or even actual factual hot sauces (the kind made from distilled habanero pepper seed extract), but we are greatly outnumbered. I even know one person who puts ketchup on tacos, because she wants some kind of sauce but is terrified that anything labeled "taco sauce" might be spicy. I tried to explain that vinegar and sugar are the wrong kind of flavor for on tacos, but she was unconvinced. Of course, most people just eat them without any sauce. The Boot Scootin' Boogie was a Country song from, umm, I think the nineties. Do yourself a favor and just forget about it. Looking it up will not add any meaning to your life. If you want to look up a Country song, look up Achy Breaky Song, by Weird Al. That, at least, has the virtue of being funny.

You know who else throws a damn good barbecue is Koreans. I grew up hanging out with Koreans and yes, I was teased and abused regularly, but their hospitality is very relaxed and warm, and the food is addictive. Some great memories and lasting friendships.

I work in a middle school. You would find it hilarious the amount of Jordan’s sitting in the hallway of the gym, cause the kids absolutely change shoes before running. The Jordan’s and the Gucci hoodies hung up outside the lunch room so they don’t get stained.

My grandmother was at the store one day buying these huge wooden beach ball ping pong paddles. I say, "Oh cool, what are you buying those for?" And she said, "Cause I need something to beat your ass with when you don't act right." I'll never forget it.
