The closest you 'll find to him commenting on today's culture would be from his 14th and final HBO special, "It's Bad For Ya" in (2008). It was recorded in my hometown, and I was fortunate enough to be there for the taping. It's an absolutely great show. But watching his act in short clips is not the same as watching one of his whole shows, start to finish. He really takes you on a journey. You should react to the whole thing, but maybe post it in multiple parts?

Exactly. The whole show is a journey and love it. I got to see him in 2007 and he was experimenting with some material like the three worst jokes he's ever heard, and by worst I mean like actually ”vile” (in his own word) shit 😂

George Carlin was an intelligent, socially-conscious, very aware individual. He definitely wasn't someone to hold back. He spoke his mind and didn't care one bit about the consequences. He was brash, yes. But I think that's what we liked about him so much. It was refreshing to hear someone not afraid to say exactly what was on their mind, and to deliver his ideas in such an intelligently funny way. I'm with you. I'd LOVE to hear what he'd have to say about what's going on today. And I believe this was recorded in the late 80's. Loving your comedy reactions! :)

Small correction, this bit was from his "Back in Town" special in '96...otherwise I'm in complete agreement...Thankfully, he has more modern stuff in specials like "It's Bad for Ya" in '08 as well as some of his memoirs in the "All My Stuff" collection (I believe it was titled, Last Words), and some bits from the '04 book, When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops?...but yeah, when did social media blow up? 2010-11 ish? Would love to hear his comments on the situation now, I'm sure he'd get a kick out of how often he is quoted in online discourse even as said discourse continues to degenerate into a cesspool of tribalism, accusations, and misinformation...

I believe this came out in 92. Carlin died in 2008. Federico Fellini was a italian director/screenwriter, known for making films that blend fantasy and realism. He's considered one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time. Scenes where the audience can't tell whether or not a character is hallucinating are often dubbed "Fellini Moments". Five of Fellini's Most Celebrated Films: 1) I Vitelloni (The Young And the Passionate) 1953 2) La Dolce Vita 1960 3) Il Bidone 1955 4) La Strada (The Road) 1954 5) Nights Of Cambria 1957

I remember the first time I heard his album Class Cown, huddled around a small speaker the volume down low so the adults couldn't hear it or us smothering our laughter with our hands over our mouths. George has been my favorite comedian since I was a kid. Despite changing radically from an animated class clown whose act revolved around pointing out "goofy shit", to his later years when he became more of a philosophical mentor to the open-minded, he never stopped making us laugh ( even as he was simultaneously forcing us to examine ourselves and our fellow citizens). Please watch 'Suicide' from his 'Life's Worth Losing' special. Extremely dark and utterly hilarious.

George grew up in the Bronx with his best friend my Dad. The stories they told whenever George visited, like the time they ran away together, OMG hysterical the shit they did. I still have all the photos from his visits and shows along with 8x10's he signed to me-yeah we got front seats every time. My mom smoked pot for the first and ONLY time with George & others, she got real sick. Us teenagers had to go to bed, but we could smell it and we snuck out to listen. I got a lot of my early education from George and my dad. Thanks to them, I'm still saying Hey man, groovy and swearing like a truck driver! I recommend going back to some of his earlier work to see how he started. Carlin's evolution to the legend he became is really fascinating, at least to me. I say the same thing about Bo Burnham. He's a much different kid in his room today than he was at 14.

Looks like another person commented on Bill Hicks. Definitely check him out. He was another amazing cerebral comedian. Unfortunately left us too early, but was a major influence on the comedians that came after.

George Carlin was a God!! I tell you this as a conservative man. When I first heard him I was a kid, liberally minded and actually voted Democrat when I was 18. Then George Carlin became real. I realized that my vote and what I wanted wasn't real. George Carlin taught me that what I thought was real, what I think, how I view the world, THAT was real. Today at 54 I am free and I don't give a fuck how you think or what you think. I love life, I love people and cultures and history. I just want to be happy and have freedom to be happy, and I wish everyone the same. George Carlin was a God! Be a free thinker, I would love to have conversations with you.

Your great my friend. Carlin was one of my favorite if not my absolute favorite comedians growing up. He ..Richard Pryor...Don Rickles....Johnathan Winters...Bill Cosby.....made records that today could not be equalled. Clean humor..even curse words that didn't offend. My father loved Carlin and Pryor. I can recite ...imitate every character Pryor ever did. Tudlum....the old wino....Bud Jennings....Miss Rudolph.....you enjoy Carlin because he hits home with the truth. Just love your reactions. Occupation Foole was Carlin's 72' album that hooked me. That and Cheech n Chongs Big Bambu. Keep up the great stuff. Your an honest guy. Can't ask for more

One of the greatest comedic geniuses who ever lived. He was a true artist, his delivery, his timing, razor sharp. SO good! Speaking of 'the public sucks' as a slogan, we have a 'Party Against The Citizens' over here. I'm not sure if they are fictional anymore.

He was one of the two or three greatest comedians of all time without much argument. I loved everything he taught us. I will say, though, in his later years, like during the time he did this special, I thought he was an angry person. I might be wrong and it was all for show but he even seemed cranky on interview shows with other comedians. Maybe he just didn't feel well because of his health issues. What an extremely intelligent and insightful man!

This is the first time I listened to you MrLboyd and I like your comments. You’re straight up and honest. Most people who do this kind of podcast aren’t. Also I really like George Carlin. He does get carried away sometimes. I think he gets his anger out on stage and he helps me get mine out when listening to him. I’m a baby boomer and I agree with him about my generation. I don’t understand how they flipped. It’s mostly the upper class and middle classes that changed. Anyways thanks for doing your show.
