The SU-25s are from Academy. They are a standard 144th scale kit from their range. So you can pick up extra planes for TY from a LHS or eBay. As for the flight stands, I plan to drill a hole in the underside of the fuselage to sink the socket inside the fuselage. This should make it secure as the socket will be held by the fuselage sides and the upper fuselage, and will sink it in so it doesn’t protrude so much. Otherwise, this is a great starter. Good to get all the new kit on the table quickly.

I was thinking the same thing regarding drilling a hole.

Yes, planes at 1/100 are too big. Helicopters are on the table for longer so having them at 1/100 is okay. Planes tend to do a fly past attack before going off table.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the planes are a bit smaller, which is reasonably common in historical games. They are much bigger than we tend to think and frankly in most systems they are no more than 'markers' for an off table effect.

The army list in the box looks wrong to me. It includes the Spandrel Anti-Tank Platoon. In the Soviet army book the Spandrel is NOT included in the T80 shock company formation. The Spandrel is only available to the BMP & BTR rifle battalion formations. It is shown as a support option on page 18, but nowhere else.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
I agree - but like most of these armies, they are a bit of a mess from a serious list building sense. They are more 'this is what we make in plastic' than a decent list. You can, at least, take Spandrel as general support.
@HeadHunterSix3 жыл бұрын
So the Spandrels are not part of the Formation itself, but would just be a Support choice? I found an article online where someone had combined this set with the Soviet half of the 2-player starter to make a nice and legal 100-point list - basically everything from the Frogfoots (Frogfeet? Frogs foot?). Seems solid, I'm going to give it a try. Between you and Josh at WargamingNewb Historical, you've really whet my appetite for TY. Thanks for the great unboxing videos!
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I think this one is a great set to start with because there are a lot of low points units in the support section which you can develop drop depending which direction you want to go.

@@ModellingforAdvantage A box with this many models for 70 points can't go wrong. As you say, lots of different ways to grow it depending on play style.

I can't remember if I had trouble putting the smoke launchers on the T-80 turret. I can remember struggling with the M1/IP/A1 Turret stowage. I dunno why, but I could figure out the guides at first.

A nice little look into the box. I may have misheard you but you take the 1pt veichles in 2's but get 5 sprues(?). I use 'Widgets' on the bottom of flying stuff in DZC and it doesn't detract at all. I even paint mine black so clear plastic should be fine.

You can take them in twos, rather than that being the only option.

A very good starter set for the soviets as you can make a competitive list here and then easily add new units later on, only downside is no artillery in the set.
