The shorter gun is the L44 for the Leo 2A5, and the longer is the L55, for the Leo 2A6.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Ah, interesting. Are there rules for the A6 in the book, or are they simply future proofing the kit do you think?
@ln0263 жыл бұрын
@@ModellingforAdvantage Definately future proofing I think. The 2A6 were delivered to GER armed forces from 2007 onwards.

Another great unboxing. I like the mix of hobby suggestions, historical info, and gaming tips. Also liked how you interspersed unit cards, instructions, and pics of the sprues. Really thorough

Great review. Thanks for this. The odd mix is because this box is an Aufklarungs force. This is a recon force rather than an armoured unit. That’s why you get some tanks, but several teams of recon Marder 2s. These are sneak and peek troops with the Scout rule. The added size of the A5 turret isn’t internal volume. It is additional armour. Lots of angled plates and spaces to break up incoming penetrators or disperse HEAT jets. As for M113s, we Australians are still using them. They are upgraded M113AS4s, but still the same basic vehicle. Thanks again for a great look inside the box.

This thing has 'spaced' armour, 21st century style? Did not know that, obviosuly. WIll have to get one of these out to you and wait for the review. Thanks mate.
@FogofWar3 жыл бұрын
@@ModellingforAdvantage Yep. The Leopard 2A5's turret is the same shape as the flat-faced Leopard II, but with angled spaced armour boxes added on to give it the angled shape. Most of that extra space is empty. The Scottish Koala's video talks about this" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaasZ4iqqahorbc

The great option this kit is it gives you access to transports for some Panzergrenadiers. Not sure if that works formation wise but it's an option to consider

Great unboxing. I think no one has got aircraft right on the wargaming table, even in dogfighting games. The TY starter sets look nice and succinct.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Aircraft, esp. Jets are tricky to get right for sure. I think TY does okay at making them relevant, but it is imperfect. I am still not completely convenced they attack enemies that close to friendly troops, but I have nothing more than my gut to work with on that one. My feeling is, that is what helos are for.

On a 4' x 8' table, corner to corner is right about 9'. So the 109 3AG could literally shoot anywhere on the table. Unless someone is planning to use them for direct anti-tank fire, I'm not sure the 3AG upgrade is worth the cost (though Rule of Cool all but _demands_ one run the version with the massive gun!)

It really is a HUGE gun, but yeah, feels like it rarely would be worth the points, but... big guns though...

Interesting, not sure I'm a fan of the Flames of War / Team Yankee rules though, but very nice modern kits all the same, and I do like the extra historical / technical knowledge you've sprinkled thoughout this unboxing. I'm staring at a bunch of unpainted 15mm WW2 stuff which I bought before I realised the rules didn't appeal, but I think I'll use them for some Too Fat Lardies or O Group games eventually - they're a long way down my painting project list right now, but I'll get there eventually.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Do you prefer another rule set?
@Kevin.Mitchell3 жыл бұрын
@@ModellingforAdvantage I've not got any rules for modern for 15mm. I do have some 28mm modern figures and maybe I'll get around to trying out one of the skirmish rulesets available. For 15mm WW2 I bought 'I Ain't Been Shot Mum' by Too Fat Lardies, which I'm hoping to try before too long. Maybe O Group as well if I can scare up an opponent. I'd also like to try the Bolt Action tank war game in 15mm, I think the scale makes more sense than 28mm. It's also a fair bit cheaper too!

Five tanks is not really any different than the American starter though - and you still get the 2 M109s and the 4 IFVs. The only real difference between them is that instead of the planes, the USA box gives you some Humvees. I think out of all of the main nations, the USSR box gives you the most well-balanced force - airpower, anti-air, good armor and scouty IFVs but I'll be getting this box as soon as funds permit.
@ModellingforAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
You're right, of course. I guess it just 'feels' weak because the non tank options are all pretty fragile and the IFVs don't have ATGMS
