This is a meaningless statement, in practical terms. Observing is by definition a form of participation, but that doesn’t mean that watching an NFL game is the same as playing in one. That’s the kind of profound-sounding nonsense that gave Deepak Chopra a career.

@@lukesabin691 No it isn't. You could watch a sports game on TV and be an "observer" but have no form of participation in that match because you are not there. What you said is nonsense. If anything, it's the other way around. A participant is also an observer but an observer isn't always a participant.
@connycontainer9459
@connycontainer9459 10 ай бұрын
@@CreedBrattonTheOffice An observer is always a participant. In quantum physics as well as sports events or theater productions. Everyone acts different when they know they're beeing watched. Teams couldn't pay their players without observers or need to be subsidized like WNBA. And whichever soccerteam has the most vocal crowd usually has a major advantage. And unless it's a Marvel movie you're probably even invested in one or more characters even if you're just laying on your couch, otherwise the whole idea of storytelling falls apart. A concept equally applicable, from the oldest religions to big bang and everyday life. Easy to dismiss as bullshit phrase but true nonetheless.

Having conversations with Jordan and Conan for hours would actually be quite pleasant, I presume. Out of their exaggerated natures, they're both intellectual and extremely well-versed in specific categories. Conan knows tons about 1800s American history and most explicitly the Civil War while Jordan knows plenty about upper class Italian culture and more broadly contemporary health/food knowledge. Their discussions when off-screen when they just have some time to talk casually must be full of random tidbits and nerd-outs on random topics back and forth.

I can't say I'm sure what "upper class Italian culture" would be. I love these remotes for the personality clash between Conan and Jordan, but it seems to me like the latter's insights about Italy are mostly about gastronomy and things you pick up having a stroll down the city center, like the name of a piazza or the fact that pigeons aren't only in Venice. Maybe I haven't seen all the videos, but I don't recall Jordan displaying a particular knowledge of, let's say, Italian opera, Futurism or the Divine Comedy...

I actually admire and understand Jordan’s mindset. He doesn’t like the little fake social dynamics we have to do with each other so he’d rather be alone or avoidant and if he truly expressed himself most people can’t hold a conversation on par with him so he keeps this fascinating Inner-world to himself. It’s actually really telling that he lets Conan and the audience into this world of his.

He is a fool talking about espresso means quick drink like express and in reality its about pressure of the water...etc he thinks he knows everything but only knows the half or tells stories. If he would be asked what kind of historical events happened in Florenz which you are thinking of he wouldnt get five correct events with dates and reason. My opinon, no dialogue just monolog because questions are not comfortable and walking through cities talkibg about a potato masher and multifunctinal kitchen tools is not like culture recognizing streets from 16 century.

He has his picture of Italy in his head and it feels like he has a very set standard he wants people to follow if they are there with him which is partially fair. Yeah, most of it's pseudo-intellectual babble and honestly I don't think most of us could handle being around someone who constantly talks so much about themselves or their opinions. It's emphasis on style rather than substance, impressions rather than deliberating. Well he's playing a role as a foil to Conan's straight man so there is a fair bit of hyperbole there. But for a guy who talks so much about the romantic qualities of the things around him- there's no metaphor or rhythm in his monologues- no tilts and inclines in speech as if a speaker is trying to take you down his journey with his speech in analogy to his experiences.

There is something so exceptionally sweet about pieces like this and Jordan's monologue about Star Wars where you can see, just subtly glinting through the cracked veneer of Conan's constant bits, that he does revere and appreciate his friend and his friend's depth of understanding so much that he chooses to stifle his own urge to interject and let people see Jordan shine. This Jordan Schlansky guy seems indeed to be a strange, strange man. And yet, every time I hear him speak, I am amazed at his ability to clearly formulate a thought or sentence, always having the right words immediately available to describe a thought or idea. Take the sentence at 4:09 for instance: "Too often in life we only enjoy something when it is a memory. Now there are a lot of reasons for that, maybe in that moment you are distracted, maybe you're restrained to some social activity." BOOM! An entire life philosophy can develop from those words! Learn to enjoy the very moment, not just the memory afterwards.
