The key to Weezer was the contrast between Cuomo and Matt Sharp, and also having three guys who can sing and have different style voices, beatles-esque. After Sharp left the group of course they still had some hits, but If he had stayed they would of entered an even higher musical stratosphere. Brian Bell- Harrison, Cuomo-Mccartney, Sharp-Lennon. Not saying they were as good as the Beatles, but I think their roles were as such.

I know the secret... it's me! I mean, of course it's not me, but literally the first 5 albums I ever bought as a teen coming of age in the early 90's were all debut albums, and somehow all of those groups are still together in 2022, they've been consistently releasing music the entire time, and they're all massively successful major headliners. 1) Radiohead - Pablo Honey 2) Weezer's Blue Album 3) Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters 4) Korn - Korn 5) Deftones - Adrenaline Honorable Mention: #7 was QOTSA's debut, Rated R

You put it in hindsight man. I don't see Weezer as a band with longevity because music quality has been shaky since the 90s but now that I think of it... so there has been many bands who broken up, on indefinite hiatus, or just moved on with their lives since then...god...

The band hasn't put out anything as a whole worth anyone's time since 2002. They're not a good band anymore and they haven't been a good band since the 90's. Maladroit is probably the last record they did with even a shred of interesting work to it. Rivers was a good songwriter for a time but it changed. Life changes people. Glad he's gotten happier over time but to say that Weezer was the same band after the 90's would be false. Rivers chopped a lot of good musicians over the years to satisfy his ego and maintain control. Not a good person during their heyday.

From the BBC here is a show idea. It fall in 2 of the three of your hosts wheelhouse. The 5th October 1962 was a big bang moment for modern British culture. John Higgs takes Spencer Mizen back to the momentous day when the Beatles’ first single, Love Me Do, was released and the first James Bond film, Dr No, debuted in British cinemas, to explore what the meteoric rise of these two cultural giants reveals about Britain in the early 1960s. (Ad) John Higgs is the author of Love and Let Die: Bond, the Beatles and the British Psyche (Orion, 2022).

There was a time in the very late 90’s where Weezer seemed like one of those bands that faded away and their days were over. Then they came out with the Green album in 2000 or 2001. Not only was I surprised they put out that album, I was surprised it was on MTV and also surprised it was selling okay. Not because they weren’t good but because I thought no one cared about them anymore. I was wrong.

2000 was over 20 years ago though. They’ve been consistently putting out new music since then. Yeah, they’ve taken some hiatuses but if a band that put out their first album in 1994 and is still putting out new music isn’t longevity, I don’t know what is. Lots of bands go through rough patches, break up and reform. If you can manage to stay together and sustain for this long after all that, it’s called longevity. The fact that their old albums still resonate with people and are revered and acclaimed is longevity.
