@@bigmcdick4916 I think Tifa's portrayal has been very well done the whole series. Tifa liked Cloud since she was little, but she kept it to herself. Meanwhile Cloud had a massive crush on Tifa, but he felt shun by her and her friends and decided to joined SOLDIER. Additionally, Tifa is suppose to be very guarded and unlikely to share her feelings after all the things that happened to her. So she is always putting a "tough girl" image, which abridge does marvellously well. Tifa's ability to hide her feelings from liking having Cloud around can be seen from ep1.

Details, man. This abridged series has better character consistency than actual serious movies and TV shows. For example, when Red XIII first says he "smells the cosmos" Barret scoffs at him like everyone else. When he gets lost with the black materia in here he casually says "I think I just sniffed the cosmos". That speaks levels of how fond Barret has become of Red XIII.

I have to say, that his Abridged Series made me care more for the story than the OG did. No discredit to the OG, but after I played the Remake and now followed this series, I have to say, that the characters in this abridged series are superior to the Remake and OG (in my opinion). Of course, one could say, it's because of the humor and overexaggeration. But it's more than that. You made me care so much more about the characters and I love every single character, especially Red and Tifa. Tifa for me has the best arc in the series. She's this loud mouth girl, who gets in everybodes face just to insault them, yet she knows she can be an annoying brat and works on it during the series. She develops empathy for Yuffie and Cloud and deeply, she cares for everybody on her team, especially Cloud. I like that. From "SHOULDER! DEEP! CLOUD!" to "Do you even have to ask?". Fucking perfect. Can't wait for the next season. :)

Yeah, at first I hated the decisions on Tifa, but it actually served the story to make Tifa very unlikeable and Aerith very likeable first, and then have Tifa soften up later on. In the OG and the Remake, Tifa and Aerith are already both nice and besties even. Here, it is worked towards and deserved. It's funny, if we take out the funny one liners and curse words in the abridged, we basically got anime-worthy voice acting with storytelling to surpass a movie. I mean, if you want to make an anime or manga of F.Fantasy Seven just take the people from this abridged and tell them ''do this but more in a more serious tone and tone some of the jokes down a bit''.

It’s engaging in its own way and purely subjective, but I can understand why some people would feel that way. The lack of voice acting in the original might bore some people but at the time that was commonplace in video games as a whole, especially with RPGs. So that means that there is a different “version” so to speak for everyone after the read dialogue. This is an even more imaginative take on that, and the storytelling is good in its own right especially as a piece of comedy. I prefer the original and the remake, but I also hold this as a work on its own merits and it was surprisingly good. It’s definitely a feat in of itself to take a likeable character, rewrite that character into someone unlikable, then sufficiently write well thought out character development within the constraints of prioritizing comedy while simultaneously incorporating key aspects of the original characters as they were conceived and then reinventing those aspects and their interactions with each other. It wasn’t a quality that I would have expected from a fan group. It actually surpasses writing from some professional releases of media that I’ve seen often elsewhere in very predictable and formulaic ways. As you noted, Tifa had the most significant changes whereas everyone else more or less stayed themselves but with more humorous dialogue incorporated into their interactions. The other thing being that the story progression of this abridged series occurs more quickly due to not having to level up characters and materia, do side quests, etc. so it keeps the pacing moving along to an extent which is unique unto itself since you’re not playing a video game (an RPG from the 90’s no less). I enjoy them all greatly for entirely different reasons. This was refreshing for me regardless due to how difficult it becomes for me to take an interest in anything or become invested or feel desire for bothering at all the older that I get year after year. I end up going years at a time without being interested in anything at all, so finding this was a pleasant surprise. Evaluating the differences in their work compared to the original and the remake sort of…”rekindled” (for lack of a more appropriate word) some things for me from “way back when” I guess? Anhedonia has steadily gotten worse over the past few years in a highly regressive way so anything that helps is always welcome. This abridged series rejuvenated my interest in the game (the remake did to though it sort of had to “grow on me” before I became genuinely excited). Prior to that I hadn’t really given much thought (if any at all) to FF7 in over almost 17-18 years.

@@chrisramos3454 I think people are the ones getting confused and using "remake" as an excuse to give the definitely deviating points a pass. For comparison, let's look at an older remake of an old FF, IV for the DS. THAT is a proper remake. While it makes minor deviations here and there for characterization purposes that further enrich the story of the game and gameplay, it never goes so far as create something potentially alters the trajectory of the story in another direction, or at least creates something that distracts from the story as the Whispers and Sephiroth's extremely early arrival do. Were this a proper remake, the final boss should've been a souped up Motor Ball or even an entirely new Shinra mech is the last thing that separates AVALANCHE from outside Midgar. NOTHING Sephiroth involved. That was part of the mystery of the original. The Final Fantasy IV remake on the DS is why I cannot consider VII to be a proper remake anymore.

@@chrisramos3454 A remaster is meant to clean up the audio and graphics of a game without actually creating new assets, plus minor changes to the UI. A remake is supposed to remake the game from the ground up with a new engine while staying as true to the original as possible, you might add some quests and lore and tweeks some things here and there, but it has to still be the same game, the best remake ever made so far and the greatest example of how a remake should be made is Resident Evil 1 REbirth. What you're talking about, ie remaking a game AND changing the story is not called a remake, it's called a reboot. Final Fantasy VII Remake is none of these: -It made from the ground up in a new engine, so it's not a remaster. -It's not a remake because the story is undertaking major changes. -It's not a reboot because the original story is not erased in favor of the new one, its story still acknowledge the existence of the original game. It's basically a sequel, but since most of it is the same as the original, you have to come up with a new word to define what this is. I define it as a Requel, a contraction of a remake and a sequel.
