I hope you're not a bot. I feel like as much as your statement proves the quality of team service, it also illustrates a situation where people would be ant i-teamsters. By no means should anyone be judged based upon their worst times, and not allowed to become a better person. But I do think the opponents of us teamsters, look at it as any Gestapo. It's a crew looking out for their own. Not sure how to solve that problem. Edit: voice to text leave me alone

I have mixed feelings. Ups is back breaking work. It has horrible physical and mental impacts. Ups Driving is is not a promotion but even more unhealthyier to be out there in traffic . Sitting in a truck is horrible for health, as is slinging boxes. Id love to see this union president be more realistic about these jobs being automated (especially long haul driving ) and convincing ups and the federal to pay the younger more junior ups workers to transition to more longstanding work (cover everything related to their family expenses etc while they go to to trade school and transition over, etc. the older ups and truck drivers can be paid to retire early just as you would pay out workers when your business closes. Truck driving and slinging boxes is going to be robot ran in the coming years… this guy taking members fees and not being real about that reality of automationfeels a little politician n-like To me.

@@doughboy5858 essentially he makes his money by keeping the “we verse them” mentality in place. When in reality automating the long Gaul trucking and box slinging portions of jobs would be amazing for thr members because he can rather negotiate a bargaining where their would be transferred over to local delivery(which yes would remain human, ran which is good because they serving the community they live in going home to their family every night) thus, with more drivers available reducing the route loads. He could pitch yhis in a way that benefits his members but instead he is fueling by claiming he can actually prevent it from happening, when he cant. The cost in on the job injuries alone is crazy with those box slinging jobs, it makes no sense for someone to be doing that physical work, long term.

@@doughboy5858 local delivery drivers will mot be replaced but the long haul trucking done on the highways anand the package sorters/ slingers will be automated soon. This union president should be getting his members to accept that and fighting to get them transferred over to local delivery jobs; b. He should be arguing that local delivery guys have impossibly long routes and more drivers would relieve them to a higher quality of life. These local drivers are trying to do too much. It’s physically grueling work long hours. While atleast they get to go home every night to their families if he got behind the 32 hour work week it would make room for those displaced sitters and truckers as they would be available to split yhr routes . in sorting and slinging heavy boxed is absurdly bad on the body. It’s like digging ditches. There are machines for a reason.thid guy seems a little old school Im his mentality, it doesn’t matter how good your retirement brnefits I are if your body is broken by the time you retire or if you never had a relationship with your kids. /!; they only know you as how you always worked away from the home they never really built a relationship with you. 😏 people are more sophisticated and educated now and they want relationships with their kids. 32 hour work week shorter routes to lessen yhr wear and tear on the body and more time with their family. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. @@RudolfMaister420 please understand there is a concentrated, extremely robust anti-union effort in the US, from majority right-wing sources. disinformation about what unions do, portraying union workers as slobs or unintelligent hacks or lazy worthless laborers, demonizing unions as communists etc, it's been a major thing for over a century. hell, way back in the day there were organized killings of union workers and organizers by heads of industry, you can find examples on wikipedia such as the Ludlow Massacre where the colorado national guard and private soldiers murdered a bunch of striking coal miners. I forget if it was Ludlow or a different one but there was one striking laborer incident where soldiers straight up rolled in with a wheeled machine gun emplacement and opened fire. and then there's The Pinkertons, who still exist to this day and continue to harm labor power using clandestine methods. It's real bad! But getting much better! I work at UPS and it's depressing the number of morons I work with who would happily sacrifice their union benefits to Own The Libs, or straight up do not understand that voting republican is antithetical to having a strong union, but thankfully they're a minority. Sean O'Brien is a conniving snake and I will be voting against him come next election, dude was ready to sell Teamsters out when it looked like Biden was going to stay in and Trump was standing strong. Theo! Thank you so much for this ep. It couldn’t have came at a better time for me as I’m a Teamster at my warehouse, and we are currently preparing to go on strike due to the company low-balling us in negotiations, and not wanting to put some of our basic protections in the new contract. You might not know it, but this was one of the most informative podcasts I’ve listened to, and has helped me understand the whole situation much better. It feels good to have a regular, down to earth guy like Theo asking some of these questions that a dumb guy like myself would like to ask the president of my union. Great work Theo. Thank you so much!

It's crazy because I literally talk about this topic with my coworkers all the time at work at Amazon. I'm a helper, not a full driver, the thing that prevents me from going to full driver is that there are too many unfair rules and regulations on drivers. You can do everything you're suppose to do, still come into work not get a route. That's stress I don't want. If bezos invested 1% of his endless fortune back into his workers, it wouldn't make a dent. Amazon for sure needs a union.

Unions destroy wage competition and often gatekeep jobs. When companies compete to hire you, wages rise. Unions and minimum wage destroys the wage competition. Unions also slow progress as they often fight against technological advances. When the horse and buggy went out of style and cars came along...oh my all the buggy drivers are out of jobs! Wait...mechanics, gas station attendants, engine designers...A huge number of jobs and new opportunities were created. The same with computers. Now AI and automated robotics, new industries and jobs will arise. It's like unlocking a new skill set on a tech tree. You get new units and new buildings and abilities. Automation will lower the cost of high end goods (portable PCs) and most likely contain AI assistants. Better tech gets put in the hands of more poor people. As tech becomes more available and costs are lowered, the traditional jobs will most likely phase out and give rise to new creative jobs. Full automation is still far away from self-automation. Humans tedious work will shift to higher skill sets. Each generation will advance it's skillsets. Technology for survival will be so good that it becomes an outdated skillset. The brain then specializes a new skillset. One we have not seen yet. The stone rolls on until the King returns.

@@danczarny622I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. Patients & families hold more power than they realize. I have 13 yrs in critical care, 3 yrs in surgical care, and now work in a jail. My advice to you is to call or write to the hospital administrator and ask how many patients were assigned to your nurse and how many patients were assigned to your nursing aide...hospitals maintain short staffing of RNs because it saves them money but it goes against the clinical evidence that shows the dramatic increase in mortality when an RN has more than 6 patients. The aides are often assigned 15+ patients. Make it clear that poor staffing affected your care, if that is the case. You can also ask your RN how many patients they have. I took care of the sickest patients during Covid & left for a surgical center where I had fewer patients & could give the care they deserve..many RNs have left hospitals for this reason. But you have more power than you realize..hospital administrators are all about good PR and money..demand answers from them. I hope you are feeling better soon❤

And you can still be Public sector unions bad, it's possible to ride that line. Just like it's possible to be a Milton Freeman free to choose economy fan and still back some types of tariffs. Just like it's possible to be a free speech supporter and still back laws for lible and harassment. Just like it's possible to be against abortions and still back laws that allow a mother to choose an abortion if it's in the first trimester. That's very sad. I know federal minimum wage is below that but so many places pay well above that for minimal experience. $20/hr is nothing and I feel for you being stuck in that situation but there is much better out there.

I make about $40/hr, and that's not enough in california. If it weren't for my wife getting the house before the housing market skyrocketed, she would have to work full time also just to make ends meet

Move to Ohio. Cost of living is low, wage is higher than that at least. Even if I didn't have a resume, and didn't tell anyone anything that I know, I could get a job for 17 bucks an hour minimum within a week
