Extreme Ghostbusters may have only run for just over three months, but this was the era when cartoons would run Monday-Friday with new episodes almost every day, so the show had 40 episodes. That's plenty of material to build a fan base.

David Crane's Ghostbusters from 1984 remains my favorite to this day. I find it sad how the reputation of a bad NES port has colored opinion on the game. The game was well received in its time, and for good reason. It did a tremendous job ob implementing various elements of the source material into a game, something unheard of at the time. You don't just shoot ghosts, you use your proton beams and traps just as in the movie. You can buy equipment to suit your play style, also largely based on the movie in its effects. You are running a business answering calls from clients to catch ghosts, much like they do in the movie. And also money is an issue, as it is when they set up their business in the movie. You drive around in Ecto-1 to go move around the basic open world. And when keymaster and gatekeeper meet Zuul appears. This game is a classic and did a fantastic job in its day. It tries to offer more from the movie than any of the later games did. Of course you cannot judge a 1984 game by modern standards, but seeing the discrepancy between this video and how the game was actually regarded back then makes its description here sound really ignorant.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game for console and PC is the best game of the series. It feels like a propper "Ghostbusters 3" sequal and is the last time we'll ever see Harold Ramis reprise his role as Egon Spengler. Recently they released Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. A great asymmetric multi-player game with some really obscure refferences from the entirety of the franchise. Some of the customizeable options you can add to your Ghostbuster (customizeable characters will always be a plus) actually take from the 80's action figure line, the Real Ghostbusters, the Extreame Ghostbusters, and 2016 Ghostbusters. The last bit of DLC they added was free. Plot wise, it takes place between Afterlife and the upcomming Frozen Empire film. It even has Ernie Hudson and Dan Akroyd reprising their characters. It's fun game that gave my brother and I our childhood wish fulfillment. Oh and it's also cross platform whitch is always a plus in my book.

I actually quite like the stylized version of Ghostbusters 2009. The player models looking somewhat more cartoony evokes The Real Ghostbusters in a fun way, the way they abridged the story segments actually means the gameplay parts shine through more, and it features male and female playable characters, which is of course a little more inclusive. And it still has the full original movie cast, so the flavour of the game is still pretty on point.

Oh well, even though this is the 40th Anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie we can always celebrate the greatness of the 2009 game and its remastered versions. And ignore both the 2011 Ghostbusters game where the idiot on the cover is holding his pack UPSIDE DOWN, like an amateur, and the 2016 Ghostbusters game, which literally does EVERYTHING WRONG. It even tries to ruin the iconic Ghostbusters theme song. It tries to steal $50 from you, charging you $4 for what it calls "Classic Ghostbusters Suits", but actually aren't; and has 4 nameless preset, boring, and forgettable stereotypes, and is also a canonical sequel to the 2016 movie, aka, the worst thing to happen to Ghostbusters ever, until said game came out, then, that movie was only the second worst Ghostbusters related thing ever made. But the 2009 remaster is so amazing that you can just go back and enjoy that game anytime, without worrying about the other shitty games, thankfully.

Sigh... and again a quite unfair judgement about the C64 version of Ghostbusters. No, the game isn't great according to todays standards and has some serious flaws. But in 1984, this was outright one of the best movie-adaptions. It had quite a unique concept for it's time and was even considered a action-strategy-hybrid, because you had to choose your equipment and had to learn how to earn money in the most effective way. The graphics were simple, but crisp and you did recognize a lot of elements from the movie. Just look at screens from other games around that time (f.e. A View to a Kill) and you understand what I mean. The music was great for it's time: A simple, but very catchy arrangement of the original song. And last but not least: It had a great atmosphere. Even if the game mechanics were simple and repetitive, you FELT like the manager of a ghostbusters team. And that's why it got a lot of high praise in 1984, equally from gamers and "critics". So, of course you can say: It aged badly and has to be ranked that low. But just naming it an awful game without even mentioning the merrits, it got at it's time, is just lazy.

Honestly I just wanted to see what y'all had to say about the Wii/PS2/PSP version of the 2009 game, as that was the version I grew up with. It is SUPPOSED to be treated as the same game from the main one, but overall it's more of just a rushed version optimized for those systems, and given a stylized look to not only look good with those systems, but also to appeal to the owners of them. Busting ghosts is a lot more simpler, having the entire process being to just lock onto a ghost, make sure your proton-pack doesn't overheat, then play a bit of Simon Says while slamming the ghost all over the place, and then set it into the trap cone. Don't even need to guide it INTO the trap itself, it just needs to go right into the cone and you're all set. The PKE goggles aren't even unlocked until after beating The Chef, and it's only really useful in making sure to not touch any ghost-set traps and having SOME ghosts be seen. But yeah, progression's the same, the story's the same, everything is pretty much identical if you were to explain them both to me.

The full story about why the official cartoon was called “The Real Ghostbusters” is actually kind of amusing. After the producers of the original 1984 movie settled on “Ghostbusters” as the title, they had to license the name from Universal since they owned the rights to the ‘70s show “The Ghost Busters.” After they decided to make an animated spinoff of the movie, the job was given to animation studio DIC Entertainment. Filmation, producers of “The Ghost Busters” and best known as the studio that made He-Man, were upset they’d been passed over for such a lucrative gig, and since they retained some rights to “The Ghost Busters” they rushed an animated adaption of that into production under the name “Ghostbusters” out of pure spite (and a chance to capitalize on the movie’s success). As a result, the DIC-produced series rebranded their show “The Real Ghostbusters” so people would know it was the official adaptation of the movie. Filmation’s Ghostbusters wound up beating The Real Ghostbusters to air by five days, but was never picked up for a second season because it failed to draw an audience.

The cover of Sanctum of Slime has the proton pack upside down
@shawnfields23698 ай бұрын
How incredibly incompetent can you get? Does the dumbass on the cover NOT realize what'll happen if he holds the Proton Pack UPSIDE DOWN!?! It's ALMOST as stupid as crossing the streams, but nowhere near as cool as ACTUALLY crossing the streams. How did they NOT notice or care enough to recognize that the idiot on the cover was holding the pack wrong? He'd be fired IMMEDIATELY for that! No serious Ghostbuster would EVER, (and I do mean EVER), let them live that mistake down.

I am just starting the video and I am curious if you will mention the Apple II Ghostbusters game. I know it exists because I used to play it. Edit: At 10:17 you are covering the game that I played on my Apple clone

One of the most anxiety inducing gaming moments for me was jumping the ecto-1 over the extremely long potholes in the nes game

I suspect that the "late" Extreme Ghostbusters games came about because licensing "Extreme" was likely cheaper than licensing OG Ghostbusters but would still bring in the paypigs.

I’m playing the remastered 2009 game off and on on livestream. It’s actually pretty good.

I had Ghostbusters (1984) on Commodore 64. Can’t temper much of it because I was about 5 at the time. I think I gave up in frustration at not being able to get past early levels.

why hating extreme ghostbusters? the most f'ed up kid's show ever, featuring even cenobites.

I love Mega Drive Ghostbusters. Compile knocked it out of the park. I also owned Ghostbusters 1 on 2600. That was pretty confounding I couldn't understand what I was meant to be doing because the symbols were completely unintelligible.

What they needed to do was make a Ghostbusters the movie video game where everything that happens in the movie plays out in the video game

Loved the #1 Game! Will you make a video about Spirits Unleashed? I've been hooked on it!

I really don't understand the Ghostbusters (2016) hate. I saw it and it wasn't great, but I don't know if I would call it bad. The worst I can say about it is that it was unnecessary, but harmless. At the very least it showed how fun of a comedic actor Chris Hemsworth can be. I grew up on Ghostbusters and love it, but people can take that love a little too far. Glad to see Ghostbusters II on the PC get some love. My brother an I played that so much growing up!

Well, a lot of people hated the overtly feminist version (I did as an egalitarian) cause of the way they portrayed the original male characters as dopey.

I was born in 85 and loved the Ghostbusters as a kid. I watched the cartoons, had the toys and any time I was off school sick as a kid I'd watch the two films back to back. Extreme Ghostbusters was not something I remember fondly.
