Fun fact: the famous line in the film "Jaws" is actually "you're gonna need a bigger boat" not "we're". As people would quote the film to fit the situation they were in as a group, it made more sense in conversation to say "we're". Hence the common misconception. 🦈

EA has had a bad reputation for a very long time, even back in '03-'07 when I was in art school for my illustration degree at Ringling. EA was one of the recruiters that came to campus every year to hire graduating seniors, especially illustration majors, as concept artists. It was a well-known fact that _you did not go to work for EA unless you were DESPERATE for a job._ They were the absolute dirt last resort, even according to the faculty (who were required to be currently working in the industry in addition to teaching so they were "current" on trends and such). Even back then they were known for treating their employees like garbage, working them to the bone in endless crunch, and paying absolute ZERO in overtime because they were salary. If, by some unfortunate circumstances, you ended up taking a job with EA? You stayed no longer than two years to get the name on your resume before getting the hell out of there as fast as you could. What's truly amazing to me is that I told this story on another EA critical video and actually got bombarded with EA fanboys telling me I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about even though _I was there to live through it._ I still don't understand the need for some people to defend EA, especially with the track record they've garnered for themselves!

Honourable mention: forcing a shooter game engine on their oh yeah here we go sports time games. Destroyed the golf series, led to stagnation in the Fifa series and serious decline in the Madden series

I've been working in the games industry for 13 years already. My career started in EA Games. In the games industry, like any other, it is not rare to start with a temporary 1-2 years contract, kinda depends on the country were your are. In the two years that I worked for them, I had 12 contracts. Two years of constant work stability uncertainty that only ended when I went to work to another company. As far as I know, that is still the rule for a lot of people working for them.

I know it prolly never gets mentioned by I'm still salty over how EA purchased the IP for the infamous PS1 game "Thrill Kill" only to shelf it and never allow it to surface. I'm a strong advocate for artistic expression so to deny all the hard work of everyone responsible for that IP is in my opinion just one of several reasons EA has lost me as a customer.

For me, it's always going to be the existence of C&C 4: Tiberian Twilight. And I'm one of those few people who prefer the EA LA-made C&C games (Generals, Red Alert 3) over the older Westwood games. That, and EA stepping away from developing for Nintendo consoles. Since then I've pretty much never played any EA-made game after that date.

Visceral Games wasn't acquired by EA. They were founded as EA Redwood Shores. Regardless still one of my favorite studios. Whether it be The Simpsons Game, The Godfather, Dante's Inferno or of course Dead Space. Very sad to see them gone.

This is just my opinion. The worst thing they have done is buy Westwood Studios (makers of Command & Conquer) then shut them down. It’s not that the EA produced C&C games are bad (Tiberium Twilight being the exception) it’s that EA buys up incredibly talented studios, then gives them insane sales projections. If this title in C&C doesn’t sell 4 million copies we’re going to shutter the studio, retire the franchise and put the programmers to work on Madden or FIFA or lay them off.

This culture is definitely not something specific to EA, especially larger corporations have a bad habbit of expecting the above and beyond as the norm, giving no praise or even acknowledgement when people do go above and beyond, but slamming and abusing people for doing what is supposed to be their job. EA is definitely an exaggeration of all these things though and it's disgusting, people (customers AND employees) deserve to be treated with respect regardless of who they are or who they work for.

EA burned me when they bought and closed the Gamestorm service, which was a monthly online service that cost $10 bucks a month for online play for a dozen or so games. This during the time when online play was usually charges hourly. All to direct subscribers to... Asherons Call. What a load of crap.
