I can see how nostalgia and faithfulness landed the SNES Batman & Robin at #3. It's really ambitious for its time, looks great, and rewards fans of the TV series (especially in Riddler's stage. They even made the riddler stuff over reliant on the bat mobile, (giant race tracks? wtf!)If the direction of the game was different, and focused more on the core gameplay elements of its predecessors it would have undeniably been the best game in the series. But instead we got a tank/car game disguised as a Batman game that has piss poor writing, lazy “plot twists”, no real boss battles, made by a studio that would rather be making any other game then a Batman game. I will actually contest the placement of Batman Forever on the SNES. While the Fighting Game commands for special tools took getting use to for people who don't play those games, they were indeed special attacks meant to help you nuke bosses and you and your friend needed to pick 2 that fit the stages needs. It was also fun to play with a friend in the same way all those other "friend tester" games like Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers and New Super Mario Bros are like. But that's not the end of its charm though. First, there is a code to enter that givers infinite uses of all your special items if you want to go ham but more importantly there is an actual fighting game hidden in the Training mode where you and a friend pick between EVERY CHARACTER IN THE GAME, most highly unique in their moves sets and attack options making it one of the largest rostered fighting games ever made with access to their special moves in MK style glory.

I don’t understand the hate on Arkham Origins. His stated reasons don’t explain why it is the “black sheep of Arkham games”. The game play is the same and it has arguably the best story. They did an excellent job focusing the origins of the relationship between Batman and the Joker from both character’s perspectives. Also, this is the best portrayal of Bane I’ve ever seen in a video game with his transformation from being a physically intimidating presence that is also super intelligent to his slide into a drugged out mindless monster. 1-3 on this list should be Asylum, City, and Origins in any order. Asylum started it all. City opened the game up to a more open world (much more than Asylum). And Origins was the best story. Knight is 4 because while the Batmobile was a cool addition, the game play with it got tedious. No other Batman games deserve to be ranked above any of them.

59:01 So, Lego Batman 3 makes the list simply because it has "Batman" in the title, while Lego DC Villains does not. They are basically the same. Although LB3 begins with Batman and Robin in Gotham, it quickly "expands" and allows you to control the other heroes (and villains) in the DC world very quickly in the game, and you get to travel well beyond Gotham as well, both story wise and open world wise. making many people unofficially refer to it as (the first) Lego DC Heroes (and Villains) game.

Dude....really? The Batmobile sections are so horrible, Said Arkham Knights is one of the worst twists ever if only cause everyone and their mom already knew who he was, and easily Scarecrow is the worst of the Villains from the trilogy. What Mastermind gives people a chance to evacuate the city first? That creates no tension cause everyone already got out. Also they really should have let Joker stay dead, he had no reason to be in that game.

@@TheInhumanBeatdown yeah the game has its faults but you got to appreciate how the combat and the stealth are the best the series has ever seen, I absolutely love Arkham knight but I will say the tank battles were awful and most of the boss fights were disappointing. @@TheInhumanBeatdown This is old but eh whatever. Arkham knight get’s way too much unneeded hate and it makes people act as if it’s a bad game. The batmobile got stale i agree but it was still a fun inclusion and a nice thing to have for traversal. The story overall was good, jason was easy as hell to know but otherwise it felt pretty conclusive. Finally for joker him being there wasn’t needed but it added alot and expanded upon how batman thought of joker after the death in city.

I strongly disagree with several placements: -Arkham Origins should be in top 10...any title that introduces you to Gotham's history (Cyrus Pinkney, Solomon Wayne, and history of major landmarks) is a top 10 Batman game -Arkham Knight should be higher, especially against Batman: Vengeance and any Lego Batman title...I think Arkham Knight did a great job...I didn't like how it concluded the Arkham trilogy, either, but I never had any problems with the Batmobile and the tank combat...the "Most Wanted" and "A Matter of Family" story DLCs made the game that much better -Why is Lego Batman 2 over Lego Batman 3? I've played them both, Green Loontern is hilarious, and exploring the Lantern homeworlds is great In reality, each of the Arkham trilogy (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight) and Arkham Origins are easy to replay and have a different experience...you can push yourself in combat and stealth encounters to try new things each time you play...I am still finding new ways to approach Stealth Sequences in Arkham Knight Otherwise, I guess the placement is acceptable...100% agree with Arkham Asylum's placement. Also, wasn't there 2 Batman Telltale Games titles?

Top tip: if you're ever reviewing 8-bit games from the 1980s released on multiple systems, never choose the Amstrad CPC version. The Amstrad CPC was the third worst 8-bit system with the third worst versions of any released games. You should have tried Batman: The Movie (1989) by Ocean Software on the C64, or the Amiga version, which has 3d driving levels different to the 8 bit versions.

I understand that City built on Asylum in a number of ways. I'd even argue it's the better game. But Asylum will always be my favorite, largely due to sheer amazement I felt at the faithfulness to the character. Not even City can touch that level of nostalgia for me
@Torthrodhel5 жыл бұрын
Asylum does kinda have its own feel that's a little bit lost in the rest of the series. For me that doesn't quite make up for the disappointing boss battles which lose it my top spot, but it's still definitely up there, and for a first attempt it was bloody amazing.
@Great_Scott_5 жыл бұрын
Arkham City has serious objective flaws. I'm beyond tired of people heaping so much undeserved praise on the most relatively disappointing video game sequel since God of War 2. It expanded the core gameplay from AA well in most ways. However, the implementation of armored enemies in combat and predator was a goofy and artificial way to try to make players use automatic/loud takedowns. The titans of Arkham Asylum were simple yet viscerally satisfying enemies to fight. But in AC you just perma-stun them and mash square while Batman's head and shoulders embarrassingly clip into him. Not all proper boss fights were winners, either. Grundy was a pseudo boss fight puzzle reminiscent of the lamest parts of God of War 2, and the actual one-on-one part of the fight with Ra's was a wholly inferior version of the battle with Poison Ivy in AA. By far the shortest campaign of the four main games. Everything involving Catwoman was mediocre at best and came in strange intervals. But that absolutely horrendous story is what cripples it. The writing is like sub-par fan-fiction (if I ever read fan-fiction). Overtly nonsensical plot holes, laughably contrived events and cringe-inducingly juvenile dialogue throughout. This is the norm, not the exception. It's thematically bankrupt as it pretends to be epic and profound with (admittedly) stirring music. Look, every Arkham game has some contrivances, but they're nowhere near as bad nor as widespread as in AC. Just about every aspect of the main story can be meticulously pulled apart. It's not in any way comparable to Dini's fantastic contributions to Batman: The Animated Series and its feature films. This is not the Mask of the Phantasm of gaming. I have to say that some of the side missions like Zsasz's phone calls were actually much, much better written. Some of the major plot twists were embarrassingly self-spoiled. We could see that there was a healthy-looking Joker that gassed Batman, the real Joker coughing as he's filming Clayface Joker, and we could see Clayface Joker facing the mirror and seeing the sick Joker. I don't know how any person could be surprised by the end reveal (attempted one, anyway). I will say that the challenge mode would've been easily the best of the series, but the absolutely scummy practice of carving out DLC character and challenge maps that could've been on the disc on day one, then selling them back to gamers. Each of the four main Arkham games are guilty of this to some degree, but City is absolutely the worst offender. To top it all off, we had to stare at a purple-caped Batman for the entire game the first time through (there is a cheat code to use alternate skins, but that wasn't known until months after the game released). As a game, I definitely prefer Arkham City over Arkham Origins. But the Arkham City I played is nowhere near deserving the praise it gets. I honestly thought I had a spoof copy of the game after the first time I played it.

@@Great_Scott_ literally no one cares to read all of this.. Lol
@anen93323 жыл бұрын
@@Great_Scott_ I agree with a great deal of that. The Open World, expanded to a full neighborhood of Gotham, feels far more hollow and false than the grounds of Arkham in the first game. This is a problem that plagues so many open world/city simulator games: far too them feel 10 miles wide and an inch deep as regards NPC interaction and gameplay repetition. That's one of the reasons I remain so impressed with GTAIV and GTAV: they're large maps that also feel distinctly alive, if that makes sense. Arkham City doesn't really accomplish that; and the criminal NPCs are, criminally, lacking in variation. The idea of a Prison City -- ala Escape From NY and No Man's Land -- sounds far more interesting and deranged than what this game actually provides.

It seems like you forgot the 2017 sequel to the *Batman theTelltale Series* entitled *Batman The Enemy Within* . The Telltale games look good, but seem less like a game than an interactive story. I would buy a faithful PC or console port of the 2013 *Batman arcade* game if it were available. That said, I am going to say my top choices are 2010's *Batman: The Brave and the Bold* for Wii, followed by the 1994 *Adventures of Batman and Robin* for the SNES. That's strictly a personal preference based on the fact that I'd prefer a 2D side-scrolling fighting game or beat'em-up over a 3D cinematic game like the Arkham series. The ideal Batman game in my mind would be a 2-player game based on Street Fighter IV as a model, using the Batman family of characters from the comic books (Nightwing, Robin, Red Robin, Damian, Batgirl, Batwoman, Azrael, Man-Bat, etc., and maybe even with multiple versions of Batman to choose from like 1939 Batman or Batman Beyond) and the Batman villains, where one player gets to choose from the heroes list of playable characters, and the other player gets to choose from the villains list of characters in a "VS" mode, or choose to play a 2-player co-op game against the system controlling the villains. Or the same model game using the versions of characters from Batman the Animated Series and its follow-ups.
