Today, we remove the engine out of the old Renault Clio for Fitter Matt
We also thought it would be quite educational to test out the sheer strength of the two Foden and heavy recovery winch lorries

The company which I used to work for many decades ago, manufactured 5 or 6 of those front mounted winches. We were loaned a Foden chassis/cab recovery wagon to work out the mounting arrangements for the winch and hydraulic system. I was always amazed at how easily it started, even on a very cold day. I think the engine was a Rolls-Royce "Eagle".

We had some excitement in our lane a few months ago when a cement mixer lorry went in the ditch with a full load. The recovery lorry at the scene had to call for a Foden and a winch took them all day. I wonder if the driver of the mixer had to chip the concrete out the next day!!

I once watched a recovery driver try to pull a 32 ton bogged down truck at 11 o clock at night with one of those Fodens using the self recovery winch at the front. Nearly took his legs clean off when it went.
