Nice, I had a 96 cr500 loved it. It can be a beast to start. Trick is turn it over a couple times to prime the cylinder and a full length kick with everything you got. Run a hand clutch, you will need to slip the clutch a lot with Precision. They are made for it. I started races from the gate in third gear and never had to shift. A ton of throttle and mostly clutch work. Can't wait to see what you build. Nice work!

You should really heat up the aluminum engine cases before knocking bearings out. Helps them come out way easier, and literally fall out if heated just right. Without heating, you're transferring a lot more force into the aluminum and could possibly damage something, or gall up/waller out the bearing seats.

I had a 1986 CR500 years ago, the Lectron sounds like a good upgrade. 1986 was at the peak of power development , after that Honda detuned it every year. You shouldn’t need more power. Make sure to wear good boots to kick the beast, it will break your foot!

Great video, check out some parts diagrams to make sure you have everything. And just a disclaimer: dont port if you dont know what your doing. I am not in any way asuming you would, but its quite common that people assume that big ports are always better. The ”dirt” in the crankcase looks like it came from wear on the bearings or its probably from sitting. Dirt from running the engine without an air filter doesnt really stick, it does the damage and goes out the exhaust port. Fuel and oil are good at cleaning.

Im officially hooked on these builds lol Thank you for posting this and keep it up man. I hope your channel continues to grow you absolutely deserve it. I have watched almost all your videos now and its so impressive to see a young man like you have such a grasp on simple and complicated parts of fab/engineering/chassis physics and mechanical work. I dont want to sound too corny but your destined to go far. And the BEST part of all of this is that you obviously are coming from humble beginnings..I seen a picture in a old circle track magazine that showed a guy building a winning race car in his backyard and it said "Backyard Engineering" for the caption..You remind me of this. Your just going to continue to grow and get better..I cant wait to see what the future holds for you and your projects.

These motors were definetly simple yet so powerful. I didnt build mine but had a shop do the entire motor on my 1986 cr500. Looked brand new and ran even better. Only got to ride it for about 15 minutes total and then someone broke into my garage and stole the bike back on september 1st. Spent 5 months restoring it just to have some scum come and take it from me. Hoping it gets returned but dont think it will turn up. I still find enjoyment in these videos tho! Haha

I would get the crank rebuilt cost ~ $95 plus parts (crank works) but definitely worth it since the motors apart already. And I would consider getting the cylinder re nikasil coated (power seal) Also if you want to go all out, get the transmission polished or coated.

Or at least a plastic storage tote with lots of simple green for all the engine guts 🙂
