What is wrong w advice? Some take any advice comment as a criticism when not intended. Grow a spine people. If you care about a family, maybe advice is helpfully and lovingly intended. Look in your own heart if you take advice always as a negative.

If Art becomes ill who will take care of your family & farm? Please know these comments aren’t to criticize you it’s to try to bring a different perspective to the situation. We really do care about your family and want nothing more for you all to be in a safe clean home!

Art and Bri, you may never read this, but hear you go. My heart aches watching this. 10.5 years ago we bought the old Farm House with a bit of land. The Home was full of neglect, dry rot, and lack of “modern conveniences”, like a suitable well, septic, insulation, etc. I worked tirelessly and barely saw my wife and the then 2 little kids (we now have 5). Get that rental, don’t talk about the dream or your vision. Support Bri, I heard it in her voice as she looked at the basement, I’ve heard it before. Fear. This comment comes from concern and not the know it all attitude. Take care

What is sad is they said when they got the trailer that they knew what it would be like and that they could handle it. Guess they have changed their minds now cause they are not handing it very well. That Go Fund money has probably earned them some good interest money and they should be able to hire out the proper people to get this ball rolling. Cleaning out that cellar should be one of the last things to do. Get going on the house so they can get out of the crowded trailer. Not putting Art down but he needs to let some of his ego go and get help in there to get the project done. It's been over a year now and nothing has been done to the house.

@artandbri when you dig out that small wall from dirt. Pour concrete and seal every corner. You can put your carrots there under clean dirt and you can put 2 or 3 earthen pots and dig them in the sand, play sand. Put your kimchi in it and water seal them the pots. When making kimchi put pieces porkbelly in the cabbage and fold it, put it in the pot. You can make amazing!!!! Hot pot in the winter.

I'm a painter and do mold remediation at a university in San Diego. For the masonry walls, consider a product called UGL Dry-lok. The key for filling the porosity of the mortar is a 3/4 inch nap roller, and multiple coats. Don't short cut this! You can work the product in with a 3-4 inch block brush in the mortar joints. But the key is a FULL DRY between coats, with a fan. But 2 or 3 coats closes up all your voids. For the wood substrates, once cleaned of mold apply original Kilz. 2 to 3 coats would be good. It's an alcohol shellac product that is utilized to encapsulate beams after smoke damage from fire. If there is any mold remaining in the wood, it will be fully encapsulated. An actual respirator with proper cartridges will be your best friend. Good luck, and we love you and your family.

Gloves can often be more dangerous because you don't feel the dangers until it's too late. Same reason most bee keepers don't wear gloves. Our hands feel danger and protect us best when they're bare. I do agree about eye protection though, especially with Bri's sight issues, his eyes are very important to their family and should be protected.

Have you ever heard of concrobium. I had a leak in my all wood tiny home. I smelled the mold. The certified mold technician told me to spray all surfaces with it. It crushes and kills the spores. Then afterward you can remove the stain with bleach solution. I was surprised how well it worked and it got rid of the smell. Good luck! You have a huge project ahead.

On another channel they built a root cellar. The rain got in. They pumped it out, but mold started growing everywhere. They cut a trapdoor, built an outhouse to conceal it. They put a squirrelcage for ventilation. The mold disappeared. Just a thought before you start messing with chemicals.

We dealt with mold in my daughter’s home after her having water to the ceiling for 11 days and in the house for 31 days during the Arkansas River flooding last year. There is a treatment you use on walls and surfaces to kill existing molds and prevents return. It was applied 3 times with air out time in between. Her basement walls were then sealed before renovation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you on this journey! Back to the kitchen, freeze drying food for storage. SO, SO EXCITED about Art and Anna’s fermentation video!

Not only the beauty, but plastering over the stones may cause “damp” - that’s the British term- to collect and breed.......mold. (I have no experience with mold remediation , so it’s just my two cents worth)
@Crystalhurb
@Crystalhurb 4 жыл бұрын
Actually i own a concrete company and just sealing it will not water vapor it. Its too old and needs to be covered unfortunately. Plus their is no weaping holes in it to allow the moisture out. Once the excavation happens you'll see all the damage from the outside that will cause them the same problem with mold. Wood shelves would mold again an the rafters. It truly is a sin to want to cover it but unless its taken apart and redone he will need to cover it. Plaster will not be the right material tho.
@CopperValentine
@CopperValentine 4 жыл бұрын
@@Crystalhurb that’s what I was thinking. It has to be sealed on the outside, to prevent the water from permeating the stone wall, or else it will still be like a wet sponge. The mold will spread where the stone touches wood and the same thing will happen again.

Nature air is always blowing in through the small openings door and window, it becomes full circle, it keeps the air moving. I hope your storage room works out and mold free in the future.

Yah. Progress on the house. Bri looked glassy-eyed while you were telling her your ideas for fixing up the root cellar. Step at a time. God bless you.

So much potential in that space! Your old stone basement is in much better condition than ours. Our stone needs a lot of re-mortaring. Great work!

I agree, there are products like the ones you mentioned made for water sealing basement walls. Only other thing would be to include some sort of ventilation system. Otherwise condensation will build up.

I love that you have those 2 windows. Fresh air coming in will help the air quality while you’re cleaning the space. It looks so much nicer with just a days work.

Hey. Love the good work you did on the future food pantry. Look into a humidity control device to pull out that excess water n thus preventing future mold growth. We were both thinking the same when your plan to see about putting in stairs from kitchen to the storage cellar. I am looking at trying to get one here. Our rains come so frequent and water table is so high. I wonder. But great work today. You were a Storm Trooper !!!!!

That looks amazing. When my great grandparents built their house out of river rock, they put in a riot cellar right off the kitchen. It was circular. Grandpa was a hoot. Always experimenting and building.

You and Bri have inspired me to redo my bedroom! Deep cleaning and having to deal with lead paint in closet. I felt the pain of throwing away a lot of clothes from that closet. Paint peeling of the window seal! I just want to say thank you both! I would love to see Bri do recipes with her instant pot ☺️! I recently bought a used 8 qt been loving it! I am a home school momma and love quick meals for the instant pot. Keep up the great work Art!

I would suggest sand blasting the walls, then use quickrete surface bonding cement, quikwall, and then painting the whole room with garage floor epoxy paint.
