I animated and directed this video all these years ago and only looked back at it now, I made it using watercolour paper reversed out so the panther was blue then turned red etc, the rest was coloured chalk on black paper. for the shoot I had a one day shoot with Roland in a studio in Battersea and he was really great very enthusiastic about the whole video and really gave a great performance which makes it . We filmed him sitting on a turntable to get the 360 degree moves. I only wanted head and shoulders so that was effective. Some of his image we filmed reflected in mylar a silver foil material to get the guitar wobbly bits.Then the whole live action we printed out onto cells back painted and xeroxed then re shot on a rostrum camera. This was all analogue old school techniques prior to digital. Now I direct kids animation shows in Cg but miss the hands on work seeing this reminded me of the fun in the process back then. memo must do more hand made stuff in this age of AI ...Paul Donnellon director

I cannot agree enough. After sitting through the bushfires in Australia and watching and working as a terrified essential worker through a worldwide pandemic and having my dad nearly ripped from life across eighteen months, this song feels like a sermon on clinging to humanity to me and acknowledging the cycles of life, death, destruction and rebirth. Such beautiful music, and such beautiful art, so prophetic, touching, brilliant. It grows on me.

My mother had suffered strong depression since when i was in her belly. My father was rarely at home. I grew up alone with many inferiority complexes - was a very shy and bullied boy - no brothers or sisters. My mother was sick and violent - physical violence with slaps and shouting and mental violence - think so little of me - no consideration or respect of one's needs. My refuge was music - this song helped me a lot - i found strength to escape and make my own life. Today i have 2 boys and i do my best to give them everything they need : simply love and care. A big hug to all those who had difficult childhood

This was another top 20 hit for Tears For Fears, peaking at number 17 in 1991. The first single released after Curt had left. Great song, very underrated and one that hasnt to my knowledge ever been played much live which is a pity.

I think this was a new song to be included on the greatest hits album. It would have been easy for Roland to call it a day after Curt left, instead he gave us this gem. Love this band and happy they are back together. One of the defining bands of the 80's.

I really appreciate Tears for Fears' entire oeuvre. The band only received the appreciation it deserves much later as one of the best bands of the eighties and early nineties. This song is a favorite of the fans, and even more underrated than the band itself. Fantastic song: tightly produced, beautiful melody line, fantastic sung by Roland, great guitar work and after more than thirty years the song still stands as a rock.
