It's crazy hearing this version compared to the Gary Jules version. (yes, I know this is the original) Gary Jules' version makes you feel a sense of depression, like you see the whole world through the lens of depression and sadness. This version gives you the sense of being truly mad. Like being trapped in a depressed state, but also feeling happy and anxious at the same time. Like you don't know what to do. Truly mad.

It's a pagan worship day. Every person is uniquely special and everyone should know that it shouldn't be something that has to have a weird celebration and "who to do".
@Hy-Brasil3 ай бұрын
@@LadywatchingByrd i dont know if you're talking about a specific holiday or birthdays or something else, but in regards to birthdays... yeah i never could justify celebrating mine. my grandmother was the one who got me thinking about it when i was young. she hated celebrating her birthday, even into her 90s which is quite an accomplishment, surviving several wars, almost losing her son to Vietnam, losing her own daughter to cancer, brothers, sisters etc. she still didn't see herself as anything worth celebrating. She was a hard working practical woman who would always shoot you straight and never coddled you (i remember one incident where i tore my bare foot on a nail while running across a dock. i came inside squalling and bleeding. all she said was "i told you not to go out there without your shoes. here's a band aid.") Man I miss that woman! So yeah she got me thinking about these celebrations when i was very young. She never SAID anything negative about them, it was just her actions that spoke. Not coincidentally I fell into the same mindset. Even as a small child i never liked my birthday. I didnt like the attention. I didn't like looking over and seeing my friends left out. i wanted everyone to have a gift. These days I don't acknowledge it. and unless it's something to do with legal documents i don't even think about my birthdate. I'm more of a fan of the UN-BIRTHDAY - from Alice in Wonderland. Celebrate every day. Cherish it. It's a gift. Even the bad days are worth celebrating because there was a lesson in there somewhere. I don't buy gifts to save for anyones birthday. If i see something you might like or need and i am financially able, i will get it and give it right then. I have seen too many people not live to see the next day to want to wait for a specific date to celebrate having them in my life. and getting back to my grandmother... she left quite a legacy but i believe her biggest resentment (it's mine at least) is how everyone of her kids, grands and great grands ignored her... except for that one day when they suddenly wanted to descend upon her quiet little home, make a lot of noise and a lot of mess then disappear for the rest of the year. appreciate your loves NOW. they may not be there when you get around to it.

This song is about a depressed young person who feels out of place in this world. He sees life as being empty, and looks for ways to escape the pain. The line, "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had" suggests thoughts of suicide, but according to Roland Orzabal, who wrote the lyrics, it relates to the psychologist Arthur Janov's idea that our most dramatic dreams release the most tension. So, the guy in the song isn't necessarily looking to die - he wakes up from morbid, lucid dreams feeling better.

Nice analysis. You are mostly right. However, their lives flip flopped with Roland going through a lot of struggles with his wife dying from alcoholism. At the end of the day, Roland is far more emotional than Curt. Curt evolved into a very even keeled man and continued to be extremely productive in the music world. Roland seemed to fade away and almost disappear after Tears for Fears broke up. It’s been nice to see them back together again.

I wish I could have been alive then. I’m 26 now. No one likes new wave that is my age, at least no one I know in person. And there is only one place to go that plays new wave one night a month and it is over run with creeps.

I imagine a room full of people looking like they were trying to punch themselves in the face, but missing, would have been pretty amusing

I can but imagine how it was like there at the time. I'm 17 in one week's time.

The production on this whole album is amazing, they were on another level.

Actually it sounds badly dated. Maybe they should have used some real instruments in this, so it would sound fresh today.
@jumptoit3812 Жыл бұрын
@@mikeymutual5489 Is the mix dated, the performance dated? How about the arrangement, is that dated? There’s more to a production than the instruments, and keep in mind that many pop artists now borrow sounds from the 80’s, so no it ain’t dated. I find it kinda funny that you think so though.

@@mikeymutual5489 yeah I guess you’re right, and 31 million people seeking it out in the past ten years are just into “dated” music. Why don’t they get with the times, am I right?!
@mikeymutual5489 Жыл бұрын
@@jumptoit3812 I didn't say that the "music" was dated, only the production - it was very much of its time. There have been other versions of this song that use real orchestral instruments, and they fit this song much better than lame synthesizers.

Never thought the original song would be so "happy". It's cool!

happy ?? You must be MAD !!

the ritm of the song! xD
@uuduu710 жыл бұрын
LaKittyChan Its too simplistic to say its "happy" .. it suggests you are just superficially listening to music and not really EXPERIENCING it .. The music is built upon a lush swirl of sounds that suggests the confusing and "maddening" premise of the song .. this is where you completely lost it .. All u hear is the dance beat and rythm ... yes of course its catchy and dancy since its made to be a dance song but if its just that it will be just like other mediocre dance song .. .. there's melancholia and brooding emotion built into the dance beat .. thats how special it is .. There's more to the song, expand your senses ... don't live a shallow life, you're wasting it .. duhh !?!
@portuguinhasweety10 жыл бұрын
uuduu7 What i'm trying to say, is that the ritm doesn't fit with the lyrics. "Duhh" !?!

LaKittyChan The beat is brooding at some parts and building up to a frenetic chaos at the climax .. thats what the lyrics is about, MAD WORLD ... .. duhh !?! You r so lack of imagination every dance beat is "happy" to you ... you immaturity hurts me !
