These guys are fantastic. You may know their history - they formed in the early 80s in Bath, England. Broke up in the 90s, then found each other again in the '00s. They put out an album of all new music in 2022 (The Tipping Point). Fantastic. As good as this early stuff. When you have a moment, check out "My Demons" - especially a live one from the US 2022 tour. For powerful tears, listen to "Rivers of Mercy." But most of the songs on that album are playlist material.

This song was came in the massive second album ''Songs From The Big Chair''. In Europe, it's was the second single after ''Mother's Talk'' and this song a massive single, reaching the top 5 in a lot of countrys in 1984 and 1985. Because the group was not so much know in the US, the american label choose instead a more radio-friendly song has the first single of the album, ''Everybody's Want to Rules The World'' (more synth-pop) and when the song was reaching n.1, the US radios started to playing ''Shout'' (who was massive in the rest of the world) and incited Mercury to give ahead of the released of the song in US. This song reaching n.1 in US in august 1985, spent three weeks at n.1. This album was a masterpiece, a strong experimental album with many experimental songs like ''Listen'' (a middle eastern and classical song), ''Shout'', ''Mother's Talk'' or ''Broken''. The album only have eight tracks (two of them was instrumental). Also noted his dramatic ''Working Hour'' who it's was hugely conducted by the sax and who it's controled the mood of the song.. But this album have few radio-friendly in this album (''Everybody's Want to Rules the World'', ''Head Over Heals'')

Saw then in concert last summer in Bethel Woods/Woodstock. They sounded great for guys in their 60s. They still have great pipes. Great show that was really well produced.

I remember "Shout" and "Careless Whisper" by Wham! getting played continuously on the radio. Unfortunately, a favorite song of mine; "Each And Every One" by Everything But The Girl, got no promotion or hadn't been played on the radio.

And fun fact about the video confirmed by Curt Smith (a member of this group), this video was making in Europe in 1984 and was overplaying in BBC and others channel in Europe. And they present this music video for the american label in order to prepare his released in the US market has the second single of this album in this country, the american label Mercury hated the video and wanted to shot a new video for ''Shout'' for the US market, but the group hugely opposed of that and it's was the video that was playing in MTV, VH1 and others channels.

Tears For Fears are the best band to come out of the 80's, and they are still making music today, check out 2022's The Tipping Point which is about the death of Roland's wife in 2017.

This dropped my senior year of high school. It got a lot of radio play, too much eventually. But the instrumental break before the chorus full of kids and teens and grannies joins them still sounds sweet. Joan Baez dropped a cover of the song some years later, but, it wasn't my cup of tea. Tears for Fears released a new album last year. I added some of the songs from it to my playlist. But right now, the eighties superstar dropping new diamonds is Peter Gabriel. The dark-side mix of "All Right" that he dropped last week defies superlatives.
