So they've managed to emulate the string noise grind that is such a big part of Dug's sound. This is definitely a better option than hauling an ampeg and traynor around!

I just bought one of these, waiting for it to arrive. I’ve messed around with a lot of crossover style distortions, trying to achieve Dug, Geddy, Squire tones... and without splitting your signal to different amps (like they do) it’s never quite the same. This is the first pedal I’ve seen really nail it. It solves all the sonic problems I’ve had trying to get the sound without also running into a cranked Marshall haha. The YYZ sounds great too. I like the sound of the Dug with P-style basses and the Geddy one with Jazz style basses. Which makes sense

just to add that if you have the headphone button engaged while you plug it into a amp or mixer, It will clips so bad that it will put a amp in protective mode. I did that with 2 mark bass combos. over headed them. but its important to share. its also in the manual, ( I didn't read until after the 2nd amp)

Thank you very much for this review. This pedal fucking rocks, man! I'm a fan Tech 21, I've been playing VT Bass for about 4-5 years and I think I need an update, because I'm getting hard times to get a good tight bottom end and good about of overdrive, it always says sound muddy and I thought about purchasing a BDDI, because many people say it doesn't have that problems and is more suited for modern music, but now we have this, this pedal seems to beat everything Tech 21 made so far.

I'd like to see someone use this with an octaver or digitech pedal to see if you can get close to Dug's 12 string live sound.

Good detailed review. I tried this pedal in the local store. I did the ultimate test and put it in the return of loop of one of the amps. And i was very impressed. I compare this pedal to Dark Glass B7K, EBS Micro Bass 2 and the original BASS Sansamp. Best thing with this pedal is the respons of the nobs (even if the nobs are the downside of this pedal). The distortion has a really good sound to it and it, really tight and grinding. Would be cool if someone could make a clip of the XLR out (filtered) tones for this pedal. What i understand is that the XLR out is filtered and and the tele plug is not?
@japas5 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's like that. The XLR has an included 4x10 cab sim, as the headphones output. The line out is not balanced and should go into the amp.

Does that headphone button means you can use this pedal without plugging it to an amp or to PA system? i.e just your bass, pedal, and headphone?

Yes, you plug your headphones into the 1/4 out and engage the headphone button

@Chris Tompkins i have this pedal but when i plug it in to my bass and amp all i get is a thin sound. The knobs,lights,tuner work but for some reason cant get anywhere close to a base sound. I dont know if its faulty or what. My amp is just a typical base amp no effects ect. Can you help?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear5 жыл бұрын
Well, if you've tried to duplicate some of the settings I demonstrate in this video and it sounds thin, you may have a defective pedal. This definitely sounds quite thick for me.

Hi, very good demo ! What I want to ask: if you are turning the knobs, they look extremely wobbly, loose. As far as I know, Tech 21 pedals are built rock solid, but this doesnt look like that. Am I right ?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're correct. They are a bit wobbly. I think it might have to do with the material they are made of and because they are running led's into them. In order for them to be illuminated they gotta be made of a material that isn't necessarily the most sturdy. Here we are, 8 months of practices and shows later and it's still holding up just fine.

Niice review and demo, though, I'm confused as to why you don't run the post pedal EQ flat, instead of scooping the mids and boosting the highs. I know most people usually does that scoop anyhow, but it's still not an "honest" representation of how it sounds in itself. Just food for thought, and I'd love to hear your reasoning.
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out! I set my amp with the EQ curve set like that, because that is how I use my amp. This shows how the pedal colors my amp. If I'd never shown the amp tone on it's own, that might not be an honest representation. But, having shown the before and after, I think you get an understanding of what the pedal sounds like and how it might effect your amp. If I had set it flat, it would not be an honest representation of the sound that I would normally get. Peace! :)
@Theladrion6 жыл бұрын
Chris Tompkins Thanks, I presumed as much, the word honest is used by me to describe an unfiltered sound (probably doesn't translate well from Danish) , and, well, if you didn't run a DI anyway, it would be coloured by your amp. As said, I really like your review.

@ThrashingBasskill6 жыл бұрын
Great Video! Two questions: The knobs look really wobbly as you turned them. Do they feel rigid enough to survive some live shows? Secondly, how does this pedal influence the sound if everything is on flat? Does it mid-scoop or something else?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear6 жыл бұрын
The knobs do feel a bit delicate. Time will tell how they endure. Sadly, I am not the owner of this pedal and can't check in order to answer your EQ question. Sorry about that...

This pedal greatly improved the overall sound of our band. It adds an extra dimension to our tone that gives us more depth and clarity. I wasn't expecting that. I thought it was going to help our bass sound better, but somehow everything sounds mixed better. Our guitarist's tone blends better with it. It's great! :)
