Sounds great. I especially enjoyed Josh's performance of "Hysteria." Great flow. And by watching him, I learned an alternate fingering for the second phrase of the line (the part where it moves down to the low E string). I'd always been playing it open, 10th, 12th. Going to try playing it where Josh did to see if it works a little better.

Great informative video. It was especially helpful that you went through a bunch of sample settings and how each control changed the tone while the bassists were playing. Much appreciated.

I absolutely LOVE this pedal. Had it for a while, sold it because I you can't switch between two sounds. I then tried to replicate with Line 6 Helix and a analog frequency splitters... and after a year, I ordered the Bass Butler and this one again. Bass Butler is good, but this one is my favorite pedal. So many features in such a small pedal. Mix-ready sounds, it's killer!
@pjfields23824 жыл бұрын
How could you not switch between sounds..for example say you ran this as a stomp box...one sound your amp sound..second sound more fat from the pedal engaged not distorted..then a 2rd with the drive kicked in?...or am I wrong.

Love the tone of this pedal, I have it on my board, it's great for a good cleaner distortion, one issue I have is that they should have put in two level controls for the clean and crunch Chanel, because the clean is way to high when switching between the two, and you have to adjust it when switching Chanel, which sucks if your live, so now I only use it for the crunch Chanel. Would have been so much better with two volumes.

I finally picked one of these up a few weeks ago. Out of my 32 years ofl playing (and owning another SansAmp and Darkglass pedal) this is IMO far superior and has the tone & versatility I want. I have a Boss TU-3 tuner and a Seymour Duncan bass compression pedal, but I can ditch those two pedals to the side so that I have less clutter on state. I wish this thing was invented back in the 90's when I was lugging around two Eden WT300's (used at the same time) into a SWR 2x12 and a SWR 8x8. I would have loved to have been able to pull this little unit out of my gig bag and have the sound person plug into it for all to enjoy. This pedal is a keeper for me & the best IMO. However, I'm still curious about the Frank Bello SansAmp that is going to be released soon.

Being a huge King's X (and Tech 21) fan, I got this pedal when it came out. What can I say? It sounded great in the music store, but I'm never been happy on stage or in the rehearsal room. The clean section's got a "plastic" kind of tone, the distorted channel sounds really muddy to me and it's really hard to cut through the mix properly. Dug's personal setting is the only one that works great, but you gotta have brand new strings every time or it sounds like shit. To find a decent tone you gotta drastically tweak the EQ and if you play with your fingers it sounds good just if you pluck hard (Steve Harris style)... And, as I said before, don't forget the ultra fresh set of strings. This pedal looked like a dream... DI, EQ, tuner, compressor and one of my favourite distortions in a small unit. Unfortunately I always disengaged it every time because it was impossible to hear my bass properly through the mix in a live situation. To me, the good old Sansamp bass driver DI is still the best pedal by Tech 21, way more effective, versatile and usable.
@ferox9653 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I use it for everything but have never used dUg's settings. I cut right through the mix with all my bands...from blues to rock amd everything else. Onstange, my rig is an Orange 1x15 with the Orange Bass Terror. I DI the dUg pedal straight to the board. Never had an issue.

Pinnick's sound is designed to be full since he pretty much plays just enough to hold down the bottom. That wouldn't work for everybody.

I have both, along with the older Programmable Bass Preamp. Use them with a Rickenbacker 4003 and an active Epiphone Thunderbird Pro. Finally, these are the sounds I tried so hard (and failed) to get with other hardware and software. A totally mix ready sound! Having the 3 Tech 21 pedals might be a little over the top, but they each really have their own character. If I HAD to pick just one, it would be the old reliable Programmable Bass DI, with the 3 presets. :)

I had this pedal, 2 of them in fact. I loved the tones but unfortunately found a huge change in audible volumes between the Doug/Mix channel and the clean channel,making it a bit impractical if you change between the 2 mid song or even mid set ( you don't want to try to adjust your volume all the time). I loved its sounds and wished it did what I needed. I even talked about this with the engineer who designed it at Tech.
@stevendugger37224 жыл бұрын
Yes, I found that too. I love mine for the mix section but when i switch to the clean channel it not only loses volume but some of the tonal character as well. I still love it though and can dial in great sounds by just messing with the crunch/drive section.

Honestly, with all due respect for the excellent work you guys are doing on this channel, the constant emphasis on metal bass distortion makes most of your gear reviews useless to me because the sound of the gear is buried under distortion. There are very few amp pedals that have a musical distortion sound, the DG AO is one of the few where distortion actually sounds musically usable; the rest sound like noise, to me. I was really glad to watch your DG amp pedal review showing their non-metal tones. Maybe more videos that don't have metal as their default setting would show off the actual sonic depth and tonal characteristics of the gear better? Just a suggestion.

I just got this pedal 5 days ago. Have tried it a few times. It seems to be a one trick pony to me. It's basically and overdrive pedal with built in compression. I never could get much out of it. Tried a bunch of different settings and it all sounded the same. My amp settings were all on flat settings. It's a $300 overly layered overdrive pedal. Just can't get into it. It's MEH.
