►About the Game -
It's a Shipper's biggest fear. You're grounded in the exclusion zone, twenty miles of death and decay sealed off by the towering, suffocating walls erected after the collapse.
Alone, stranded, and with limited resources at your disposal you'll have to push your way through the zone, solve environmental puzzles, manage resources and fight for your life as you try to find a way to escape beyond the wall.
Play as Mica, an unlicensed black market shipper who will stop at nothing to find her missing partner.
It’s been 12 days since Sasha left.
You talked about it, you argued about it and you even laughed about it. Anybody in their right mind knew going to that place was a death wish, a one-way trip to the end of the line. But Sasha wasn’t one to scare easily, she wanted answers and there was only one place those answers held any truth. Her mind was already made up, you just didn’t expect her to do it without you.
Twelve sleepless nights later and you finally get the call. Tax has found someone, A border security suit looking to make some extra credits on the down-low. He can get you clearance, a two hour window to fly into the zone, find Sasha and get the hell out of there.
You make your way across the exclusion zone but something’s wrong. The nav's running in circles and you're losing altitude. Before you know it a blinding white fills the sky. The dash goes dark and your hover drops out of the air like a lead balloon, slamming into the paved streets below.
You wake to the acrid smell of an electrical fire, rain pounding on the cracked windshield. You're surrounded by the crumbling remains of what were once considered homes.
You need to find a way out. Call for evac, scale the walls. Something. Anything. Survive.

They just need to completely rework that first enemy encounter. It is complete BS to not only unequip the player's weapon, but also empty it and make it a lame jump scare that forces the player to take damage.

I love this style. It's a fascinating story so far. Interesting how stale water is mentioned in most of the tubs and sinks. I like how you can find out how the bodies died. The phone bot is creepy. Would definitely like to see the full playthrough.

The OG Silent Hill vibe is awesome. Nice physics, information transfer, and voice acting. A slow burn to begin, for sure, but I'm assuming the threat will escalate as the game goes on. The demo did its job and sucked me in--I _definitely_ want to know what happened in " Barnsdon."

I admit, I'm intrigued at best. I'm curious about Mr. RoboCall. I like the setting a lot, a post-apocalyptic looking city set in the far future. Nice. But again, I'm intrigued at best, I really want Chris to play Syberia: The World Before. I watched a playthrough of it and... It... It honestly blew me away. Graphics are better (the characters don't look like cartoons trying to be real), gameplay (with a few exceptions) is better, the story is better (I can't even say one thing about the story, you have to watch it for yourself), and the settings are so beautiful, the acting is vastly improved, no forced messages or imminent threats, but a good amount of drama, and an ending which... It honestly leaves me on the fence. On the one hand it kinda makes me want to see a fifth Syberia game. But, on the other hand, I'd also be okay if they didn't try and make a fifth. Especially since Benoit Sokal has passed.

@@shadowjudge921 I liked the Syberia series but didn't _love_ it. I never got into the steampunk vibe. I went back to look at the series and, bizarrely, all my comments for Syberia 1 & 2 are gone and only a couple remain for 3. Geez, i'm beginning to feel unwanted. 😂 Anyway, "The World Before" definitely looks better than 1 through 3, and I take your word for all the rest. I began watching Evelien's playthrough but never finished it--maybe I'll do that. As for Chris playing it on the channel, I'd say it's unlikely because it's been out for over a year. No harm in asking him to, of course. And, yeah, too bad about Benoit Sokal.

@@Scriptor13 You're always wanted as far as I'm concerned. 🤗 I loved the first two Syberia games. The third needed a lot of work and could've done without the whole "dangers of mankind" messaging (i.e. talks of slavery, global warming, nuclear disaster etc.) The World Before feels almost like a return to what 1 and 2 were. I don't understand why so many aren't into steampunk. But, each to their own I suppose.

I like nature and natural looks, flowers, and color. I'm like a hippie with ADHD who is sometimes goth and sometimes minimalist/modern. Hahaha! I'm all over the place.😆

@@Scriptor13 I know what you mean. I'm kinda all over the place too. If you asked me where I would live if I could live anywhere of my own choosing, I wouldn't know how to answer. Depending on my mood I would either want to live on my own ship in outer space, a small house in amongst nature (i.e. cabin, hobbit hole or tree house) or I would want to live in some lonely skyrise apartment in a city where it rains most of the time.

I’m genuinely impressed that this is the work of basically one person. It plays very well, transitions between environments are smooth, voice acting and sound design are very good compared to other indie efforts, and the notes are well written. As the gameplay unfolded, it kept reminding me of a mixture of other games… I noticed hints of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Observer, even Medium, and the ‘retro-tech’ interface, together with certain sound design and the combat, gave me strong hints of SIGNALIS. And yet so far I’m liking this a lot. It’s clearly influenced by many other games but it manages to prevent those influences from getting in the way. Like you Chris, I’m definitely intrigued. By the way, apologies for the lack of commentary as of late. Lots of stuff going on, including a change of residence and the associated move… I think you can relate. But even if I haven’t left a comment on recent videos, I’ve always left a Like and tried to watch as much as possible. You’re still my favourite letsplayer here on KZbin. Cheers! //Rick

Hey, the Chasing Static dev! I agree with your thoughts in that it was generally good, but there was something unsatisfying about it in my faint memories. But that it was still somewhat good, so I'm hopeful! Definitely one of those people who just needs to keep making games, I think, and they'll really make something special - and this could be the game to do it, potentially! Definitely fantastic aesthetic and reminds me of the classics, so I can't wait.

Wow, I'm impressed..it looks like those Council Estate wooden garden fences have stood the test of time. ;) Mind you, the Dystopian future looks pretty much the same as it does right now, round our way. I really liked this! The area felt fresh to gaming, as in a British suburb of that design. It felt like deja vu, yet not quite. Plenty of mystery, samples of how the radio works and combat with the strays. Maybe the animation of the characters could be smoother, but heck it's one person and they've done a really good job!

These flats remember to me Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. Man I like this aesthetic. I feel this decade (2024 - 2034) more or less will be cyber punk as (2004 - 2014) was steampunk. I love both. Nice to watch you Chris, it's more than a entertainment, you are pristine gamer. The game itself is a tool and you are the man who knows play these tools. Thanks for share it with us.

Very good and creepy slow build tension. The AI talking to her was seriously starting to scare me. It sounded malevolent like it would enjoy torturing others. Looking forward to the full game. 😀👍🏼

I love the fact that the dev went for the 80s/90s retro Cyberpunk aesthetic. Like the TVs being ye olden analog ones, and there still being desk phones, the Strays looking like revived corpses with crude augmentations, stuff like that. It really elevates the dystopic desolation and avoids all the "sleek, smooth & clean" designs of our modern tech breaking it. I have high hopes for the full release.

Aye, I too found myself immediately drawn in and curious about the lore. The dev has done an excellent job at revealing little bits of it gradually, instead of infodumping it all at the start or by getting too eager and expository with notes.

There have been a lot of good game demos lately that haven't really kept my interest, but I really like how different this one is. There's just enough of a cyberpunk touch that it doesn't feel like some sort of Blade Runner knock-off. In fact, once the first stray appeared, I'd say this really does feel like classic Silent Hill with a few cyberpunk accents seamlessly integrated. All in all, this is one game I'll also be keeping an eye out for. There's such a perfect blend of old and new in every aspect, and the horror elements are far more subtle than in most survival horrors, making it feel even more unique. In fact, the slow burn was absolutely perfect, giving us time to really get into the setting and dropping little hints instead of immediately throwing everything at us so that when that first monster attacks, it gets the adrenaline going. The same could be said for Hollow Cocoon, which was one of my favourite games from last year. I just hope this isn't one of those times where the demo comes out a couple years before the actual game.

I quite like that in 2050 in the UK the Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T.) will be a Lamborghini Countach. This game feels like a Silent Hill game with STALKER vibes.

I really enjoyed this demo and I think it looks very promising. I think the setting is the real winner here, it's very well-done. This was SO much more enjoyable than Silent Hill - Short Message, and this feels much more like a "classic" SH (even as a 40 min demo with few enemies). Really looking forward to the full game !

We have a Barnston in Essex but that is as close to it as you can get I am sorry to say, also how come this game gives you lots of ammo but hardly any monsters? halfway through the video & I don't remember seeing anything for the main character to shoot at!!

feedback to the dev There should not be raindrops dripping down the 4th wall 3rd person perspective view... unless it is intended to be a hovering drone camera following the main character, which i don't think it is
